PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

By JOSEPH MAY, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

UNDER and in pursuance of the powers vested in the Superintendent by the fourth clause of "The Highways Act, 1871," I do hereby notify that all that portion of the Province of Auckland hereunder described shall be a District under the said Act, and that such District shall be known by the name prefixed thereto, that is to say—

THE POVERTY BAY HIGHWAY DISTRICT,

Bounded by the Turanganui River from the Junction of the stream known as the Taruheru Stream to the sea, thence and by the Waipaoa River to the mouth of the Karawa Creek, thence to the Arai Stream, thence by a straight line to Pukeameonga, thence by a straight line to Tongahua, thence following the base of the hills to the Waipaoa River to Mr. Scott’s House, thence by the Waipaoa River aforesaid to the base of the hills near Waitahoa, thence along the base of the hills to the Ormond Military Settlement block, and by the boundaries of said block to the source of the Creek known as the Taruheru Stream and by said stream to the Turanganui River—the point of commencement.

IN pursuance of the fifth section of "The Highways Act, 1871," I do hereby bring the said Act into operation within the POVERTY BAY HIGHWAY DISTRICT, and I do appoint the First Meeting of Ratepayers to take place at the Court house, Gisborne, on Monday, the twenty-fifth day of September next, at twelve o’clock noon; and Jas. B. Poynter, Esq., to be Chairman of such meeting.

as Members of the said Board, in the place of Mr. John McKay, Chairman, Mr. A. P. Campbell, and Mr. Murdoch McKenzie, resigned.
