as Collector of Highway Rates, and also as Inspector under the “Thistle Act, 1858,” for the said District.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Toll Gates and Toll Houses, on the Great South Road at Newmarket, and on the Remuera Road at its junction with the Great South Road, are about to be removed from their present sites to the site of the Government Weighbridge at Newmarket; and notice is also hereby given in terms of “The Turnpike Act, 1866,” that, on and after Friday, the first day of April, 1870, Tolls will be levied at these Gates upon their new site.

ALL School Teachers who claim salary from the late Education Board, for teaching during the quarter ended 31st March, 1868, are requested to furnish to the Provincial Secretary satisfactory evidence of their having performed the duties required.

TENDERS will be received at this Office, until noon of Thursday, the 10th March, for the Service of Printing for the Provincial Government, during the period commencing on the 19th March proximo, and terminating on the 31st December, 1870.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IT is hereby notified, for general information, that the Tender of Messrs. IVEY and BYRNE (of the Mercury Bay Flax Mills) of £53 5s. per annum, has been this day accepted for the exclusive right to cut Flax upon the Government land in the Whenuakito Block, Mercury Bay, Queen’s County, containing about 3,982 acres.

Two other Tenders were received.

Advertisements must be forwarded to the Superintendent’s Office at Auckland, or to the authorized Agent at Shortland or at Coromandel, with pre-payment of the charge for insertion at the rates above specified.

Advertisements should be written on one side of the paper; and names, signatures, &c., must be written in a legible hand, to save mistakes.

The number of insertions required should be written across the face of the advertisement.

The Government will not guarantee the publication of any notice or advertisement within a given date; nor will the same be inserted unless pre-paid.

SUBSCRIPTION.

The subscription is at the rate of £2 per annum; or 10s. 6d. per quarter, payable in advance.

Subscriptions are required to terminate with the Quarters ending March, June, September, or December. A less period than three months cannot be subscribed for.
