PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
By John Williamson, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.
UNDER and in pursuance of the powers in me vested by the third clause of "The Impounding Act, 1867," I do hereby appoint those premises at Shortland, erected by Mr. George Wilson, on Public Reserve B, Town of Shortland, to be and be used as a Public Pound for the purposes of the said Act.
Given under my hand, at Auckland, this sixteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

HEREBY notify for general information, that, in accordance with the provisions of "The Slaughter House Act, 1866," Constable Francis Lipsey has been appointed Inspector of Public and Private Slaughter houses for the District of the Town of Shortland, under the said Act.

The following letter and enclosure have been this day received from Mr. Malcolm, Great Barrier, and are published for general information.

SIR,—Having found a sealed bottle containing the enclosed, I hasten to comply with its directions. It was picked up on a sandy beach in the centre of the Harbour, and the spot, at which it was found, bore due North of Cape Colville, distant about fifteen miles.

This bottle is thrown into the Orewa River (County of Marsden) to ascertain the drift of the current. Any person or persons finding the same, are requested to forward it to His Honor the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, as the set of the drift is of the greatest importance.
March 8th 1868.
N.B. The person or persons finding this bottle, are requested to take the minutest observations of the locality and the bearings of the place.
