PORT CHARGES.—AUCKLAND AND MANUKAU.

In order to obtain from those who derive benefit from buoys and beacons at the ports of Auckland and Manukau, a contribution towards the expense of the maintenance thereof, the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, by virtue of the power conferred on him by the Marine Act, 1866, doth hereby levy the following port charges, to be paid as in the said Act provided:

For every vessel or boat, whether coming from seaward are not, whether exempted from pilotage fees or not, and whether decked or undecked, and whether propelled by steam or not, navigating or plying, whether for hire or not, for every registered or measured ton:

If plying within the port, or employed in coasting only: at the port of Auckland, 2d. per ton, quarterly. At the port of Manukau, 3d. per ton, quarterly.

If not plying within the port, or employed in coasting only: At the port of Auckland, 1d. per ton. At the port of Manukau, 2d. per ton. To be paid each time such vessels shall enter the said ports respectively:

Provided that the port charges collectively made in one half-year against any one vessel shall not exceed sixpence per ton.

Given under my hand this twenty-eighth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

The foregoing charges submitted to and approved of by the Governor in Council, at Christchurch, this fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

REGULATIONS UNDER “DISEASED CATTLE ACT, 1861.”

I, FREDERICK WHITAKER, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, by virtue of the powers to me delegated by His Excellency the Governor in Council, under “The Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” do hereby make the following Regulations under the 10th Section of the said Act:—

  1. No person shall drive, or permit or suffer to stray, any animal infected with said disease along or upon any public road or upon any public road or highway, or unenclosed lands, under a penalty of Five Pounds for each head of such cattle so driven or suffered or permitted to stray.

  2. If any person shall offer for sale at any auction or public place, or shall bring into any public sale-yards or public place, whether for sale or not, any animal infected with the aforesaid disease, the owner of such animal shall be liable to a penalty of Five Pounds for each such animal.

  3. It shall be lawful for any Justice of the Peace, upon production to him of a certificate, signed by a veterinary surgeon and two farmers, that any animal therein mentioned is infected with the said disease, and has, within twenty-four hours previously, been upon a public road, or in any public sale-yards or other public place, to authorise, by warrant under his hand, such animal to be seized and destroyed, and the carcass buried.

  4. If the owner of any animal, authorised as aforesaid to be destroyed, shall enter into a bond for £50, to the Superintendent of this Province, in the form hereunto annexed, such animal shall not be liable to be destroyed, until breach of the condition of such bond.

  5. If any veterinary surgeon, or other person, shall wilfully or fraudulently sign any false certificate that any animal therein mentioned is or is not infected with the said disease, he shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding Fifty Pounds.

FORM OF BOND.

Know all men by these Presents, that I, ———, am held and firmly bound to the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland in the sum of £50, to be paid to the said Superintendent, his successors or assignees, for which payment to be well and truly made, I bind myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators firmly by these presents, sealed with my seal.

Dated this day of 18___

Now the condition of the above written bond is such that if the said do retain and keep in his possession, for the period of seven days next hereafter a certain animal and shall within fourteen days hereafter lodge with J.P., a certificate signed by a veterinary surgeon and two farmers, stating that they have, at the expiry of the said seven days, examined the said animal, and found it not to be infected with the disease called Pleuro-Pneumonia, then this obligation to be void and of none effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
