Esq., so long as he should hold the office of Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, the several powers vested in the said Governor by the second, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth, and tenth sections of the said Act, subject to being rescinded as in the said Act provided, and subject to the regulations issued by the Governor in Council on the first day of October, 1861, and to any other regulations to be from time to time duly made; And whereas the said John Williamson, in pursuance and by virtue of such powers so vested in him did on the 28th day of February, 1862, proclaim and declare that after the date thereof the several Colonies of Australia, that was to say the Colony of New South Wales, of Victoria, of South Australia, of Western Australia and Queensland, as well as the Colony of Tasmania and the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Islands of Great Britain and Ireland, should be deemed to be for the purposes of the said recited Act, affected districts within the meaning of the said Act, and no cattle were allowed to be imported from the above mentioned Districts into the Province of Auckland, until further notice; And whereas the said John Williamson has ceased to hold the office of Superintendent of the Province of Auckland; And whereas the said Governor hath with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, and in pursuance and exercise of the said power and authority did by his Warrant under his hand delegate to Robert Graham, Esq., so long as he should hold the office of Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, the several powers vested in him by the said recited sections of the said Act, subject to be rescinded as in the said Act provided, and subject to the regulations issued on the fifteenth day of September, 1862, and to any other regulations to be from time to time duly made; And whereas it is expedient to remove the restriction on the importation of cattle from certain Districts included in the said recited proclamation of the 28th day of February, 1862;

Now therefore, I the said Robert Graham, by virtue of such powers in me vested, do hereby proclaim and declare that from the date hereof, and until further notice, it shall be lawful for all persons to import cattle into the Province of Auckland, from the following places, viz.—The Islands of Great Britain and Ireland, Tasmania, South Australia, Twofold Bay, Jervis Bay, Port Stephens, and Newcastle, N.S.W.; And I further proclaim and declare that the said proclamation of the 28th day of February, 1862, to remain in full force and effect save and excepted as altered hereby.

THE following Acts, passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Auckland, intituled

“The Licensing Act, 1863,”

“The Turnpike Act, 1863,”

having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency has been pleased to leave the same to their operation.

NOTIFICATION.

WHEREAS by the Turnpike Act 1863, the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland is authorised to erect Toll Bars and Toll gates on the Great South Road, at such places as to the said Superintendent shall seem fit, and to direct Tolls to be paid for all animals and vehicles passing or re-passing through the same at a rate not exceeding the rates set forth in the Schedule to the said Act annexed. And it is provided by the said Act that no such toll shall be taken at any such Toll-bar, Toll-gate, or Toll-house, until a list of the Tolls payable thereat shall have been publicly notified in the Provincial Government Gazette at least one month previously. And whereas Toll Bars have been erected on the Great South Road at or near Newmarket;

I hereby declare and notify that from and after the second day of September, 1863, I have directed the following Tolls to be taken thereat.

For every single or Saddle Horse ... 0 0 3
For every Carriage or Vehicle drawn by one Horse 0 0 6
For every Carriage or Vehicle drawn by two Horses 0 0 9
For every Carriage or vehicle drawn by more than two Horses 0 1 0
For every Public Van or Conveyance carrying passengers for hire 0 2 0
For every Dray drawn by Bullocks, every two Bullocks to be charged as one Horse 0 0 6
For all great and small Cattle, per head 0 0 3
For Pigs, Sheep, and Goats, per head 0 0 0½

Provided that all vehicles with wheels having tires of a breadth not less than four and a half inches shall only be liable to one-half the above rates of Toll.
