HEREBY notify for general information, that Mr. William Rowe is authorised by me to make arrangements for the proper working of the Mount Eden Quarry, and is empowered to charge sixpence (6d.) for every load of Scoria Ash or Gravel taken from the said Quarry.

Extract from the Journals of the Auckland Provincial Council, Tuesday, April 21st, 1863.
RESOLVED,—That an address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, forwarding the amended second and concluding Report of the Committee appointed to consider the Fencing and Impounding Acts now in operation, together with the Minutes of the said Committee; and that His Honor be requested to circulate the said Report throughout the Province, so as to elicit expressions of public opinion on the same, and to cause to be prepared Bills in terms of said Report.

AMENDED SECOND AND CONCLUDING REPORT
Of the Committee appointed to consider the Fencing and Impounding Acts now in operation.
Your Committee have considered in detail the Acts referred to them, and after examining witnesses, considered that they were in possession of sufficient information themselves to proceed upon their duties. The conflicting interests to be considered, and if possible reconciled, especially in the laws relating to trespass, were fully brought out in the deliberations of the Committee. But the very conflicting nature of the interests at stake, rendered it all the more incumbent upon your committee to weigh the matters referred to them, and as far as possibly could be done, to advise such alterations in the existing Acts, as would on the whole protect the rights and promote the interests of the community at large. The Fencing Act, 1854-5, is an Act to make provision for the putting up of partition or boundary fences, and for securing, that in case of the absence of one owner, the adjoining land owner or occupier shall put up a good fence before he can claim one-half of the value of such fence. It seemed therefore necessary to secure these ends would be to specify the various names of timber, and the various kinds of other fences, one of which may be put up and considered a legal fence.
