1st Section.—The road from the top of the cutting to the cross roads has been well formed, metalled, and gravelled, with side drains, &c., complete; a considerable portion of the quarry has been removed also.

2nd Section.—From hence to Mr. McLean’s causeways have been made as follows:—

In addition to the foregoing particulars, improvements have been made on many parts of the road, such as drains to carry off surface water, filling in ruts, and even drawing gravel to said ruts when required.

There are some few accounts not presented which render it impossible to give so exact a sum total of expenditure as in other cases; but the amount, however, when all accounts are paid, will be as near as possible up to date £383 17s. 7d.

The length of Section 1, 30 chains.

The length of Section 2, 96 chains.

G. O. ORMSBY,

PANMURE AND OTAHUHU ROAD.

To have done more to this road than render it passable for carts would have been impossible, as the sum voted in the margin will show. £120.

The following are the particulars of the Improvements and Expenditure.

CAUSEWAYS.

Dimensions in feet.
No. Length. Breadth. Greatest depth. Chains Long. Feet broad.
----- --------- ---------- ----------------- -------------- -------------
1 118 16 3 15
2 26 15 5 21 15
3 15 15 2 2 15
4 12 22 2 0 0

The total cost of this has been £114 7s. leaving the balance for any incidental repairs. The time occupied in labour was about three weeks.

The road has been passable for carts during the last six weeks, and is much used.

G. O. ORMSBY,

HOWICK ROAD, from the Church to the beach.

The distance from which the metal had to be drawn—from Pigeon Hill—renders the expense of road making here (as almost the whole of the road from the Panmure Ferry to Howick Beach) very heavy.

The Improvements and Expenditure are as follows:—

28 chains of Road, raising in centre and formed with side cuttings and drains.

11½ chains of road, completed, including rough metal, gravel, and shell stuff, 14 feet wide, 8 ins. deep.

Cost per chain £17 17s.

Total cost of work, £191 7s. 6 d.

Sum voted, £200.

G. O. ORMSBY,

P. R. S.

HOWICK ROAD from the Ferry to the Church.

The expense of carting metal from Pigeon Hill to the Ferry was so enormous, that I considered it my duty to stop the work, previous to which some few chains were formed and a few yards metalled, with one coat of coarse stuff.

Each load of metal cost 15s., besides the cost of raising, filling, and spreading,

Sum expended ………… £33 4s. 9d.

G. O. ORMSBY,

P. R. S.

EPSOM ROAD to ONEHUNGA.

I found it absolutely necessary to employ two men on this road filling in ruts. I have also sent several loads of metal by the Government cart. £12 would as yet cover the expenditure.

G. O. ORMSBY,

P. R. S.

ONEHUNGA (QUEEN-STREET) ROAD.

Two men have been, and are now employed, filling in ruts on this street. The Government cart has also been employed drawing metal to this road.

A balance of £50 remains over, and a few pounds have only been expended, say £15.

G. O. ORMSBY,

P. R. S.
