Okarito District" and do proclaim and declare that the territory formerly comprised within such district shall be and the same is hereby divided, for the purposes of the said Act, into two districts, the names and boundaries whereof shall be as follows:—

OKARITO DISTRICT.

Bounded on the North-east by the Wanganui River; on the South-east by the dividing range; on the South-west by Paringa River, Paringa Lake, and watersheds between Haast River and Paringa River Valleys; and on the North-west by the ocean.

JACKSON’S BAY DISTRICT.

Bounded on the North-east by Okarito District; on the South-east by the dividing range; on the South by the southern boundary of the province; and on the North-west by the ocean.

And I do declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation and take effect on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-six.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Most Honourable George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of Mulgrave, Viscount of Normanby and Baron Mulgrave, all in the County of York, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave, of Mulgrave, in the County of York, in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, by the twelfth section of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, upon application being made to grant special claims of greater area than may be determined by the Regulations to be made under the eleventh section of the said Act, for the purpose of carrying on mining operations under circumstances of extraordinary difficulty or involving the expenditure of considerable sums of money, or for the encouragement of enterprise in prospecting new ground, or as a reward for the discovery of new gold workings, and also to prescribe the terms and conditions upon which any such special claim may be held, occupied, worked, and forfeited:

And whereas, by the one hundred and ninth section of the said Act, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, under his hand and the public seal of the Colony from time to time, to delegate to such person as the Governor may think fit all or any of the powers vested in the Governor by the said Act, except the powers conferred by sections twenty-two, forty, forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and seven thereof, subject to any limitations or restrictions as he may think fit:

And whereas, by an Order in Council dated the second day of February, 1874, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th day of February, 1874, His Excellency the Governor did, under his hand and the public seal of the Colony, delegate unto me, James Alexander Bonar, Superintendent of the Province of Westland, all the powers vested in the Governor under or by virtue of The Goldfields Act, 1866, except the powers conferred by sections twenty-two, forty, forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and seven of the said Act, to have, hold, and exercise the said powers hereby delegated to me, the said James Alexander Bonar, within the Province of Westland:

Provided always that copies of all rules and regulations made under the said delegation shall be forthwith transmitted to the Colonial Secretary in order that the same may be laid before the General Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the one hundred and tenth clause of the said Act:

Now therefore, I, James Alexander Bonar, Superintendent of the Province of Westland, in exercise and pursuance of all
