A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by “The Licensing Act, 1873,” it is amongst other things, enacted that the Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the passing of the said Act, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette, define such territorial divisions as he may think proper to be Licensing Districts for the purposes of the said Act; and from time to time may alter and re-define the boundaries of the same:
And whereas it is also further enacted by the said Act, that in the Proclamation declaring the said several districts the Governor shall in each case declare the number of persons of whom the Licensing Court of such district shall consist, such number not being more than seven nor less than three:
Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of the hereinbefore cited Act, do hereby proclaim, constitute, and appoint that the several territorial divisions, the boundaries whereof are defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto, shall be Licensing Districts for the purposes of the said Act; also that each such district shall be known by the name by which it is designated in the said Schedule: And I do hereby further proclaim and declare that the Licensing Court of each one of the districts hereby proclaimed, constituted, and appointed, shall consist of four Commissioners, inclusive of the Resident Magistrate, who shall at any time hereinafter be appointed by me, the Governor aforesaid, to carry into effect the provisions of the said Act within such district.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.

Bounded on the West by a line of 160 chains and 80 links, extending from the South Spit along the beach; thence along the South Town Belt 115 chains and 50 links; thence along the East Town Belt 120 chains and 90 links; thence along the Native Reserve, No. 31 for a distance of 41 chains and 30 links to the River Grey; and thence along the River Grey to the point of commencement. -
COALDALE DISTRICT.
Commencing at the north-east corner of the Greymouth District, hereinbefore described; thence easterly along the south bank of the River Grey to the junction of the River Arnold; thence south along the east bank of the River Arnold to the south-east corner of the Coal Reserve, No. 274; thence west along the south boundary of the said reserve to its intersection with the south-east corner of Rural Section 1599; thence south along the east boundary to said section; thence West along the south boundary of said section and Block No. I to its intersection with A-K line; and thence by a straight line drawn westerly to the south-east corner of the aforesaid Greymouth district; and thence northerly along the east boundary of the said district to the point of commencement.
