elected at the particular election for which
they are nominated, then a poll shall be
taken at such place in each District as shall
be fixed for that purpose by the Superintendent by notice in the Provincial Gazette as aforesaid.

  1. The poll shall be opened in each District at ten o’clock in the forenoon and
    closed at four o’clock in the afternoon of
    such day as shall be appointed by the
    Superintendent by such notice as aforesaid
    to be the polling day.

  2. The voting shall be by ballot, and shall
    be taken by means of voting-papers, which
    shall be provided by the Returning Officer.
    The voting-papers shall contain the names of
    each candidate. One voting-paper shall be
    handed to each voter as he comes to record
    his vote. The voter shall be instructed, by
    notice to be posted in some conspicuous part
    of the room where the polling shall be held,
    to erase the names of the candidate or
    candidates for whom he does not wish to
    vote. The Returning Officer shall provide a
    convenient place or places in which the
    voters may erase the names from their
    voting-papers without being seen, and shall
    also provide pencils for the purpose.

Each voter, after having prepared his
paper, shall fold and deposit the same in the
ballot-box in the presence of the Returning
Officer or his deputy. No voter shall be
allowed to take his voting-paper out of the
polling room.

Voters’ Roll.

  1. For the purposes of the first election,
    the roll of ratepayers for the time being in
    force in the respective districts, shall form the
    roll of voting ratepayers. Provided that
    with regard to the towns of Hokitika and
    Greymouth each voter shall be entitled to
    one vote only in the same manner as the
    voters in the other Districts.

  2. For all elections after the first, the
    ratepayers entitled to vote shall be the
    persons in the respective Districts whose
    names shall appear in the Rate Collector’s
    book as persons liable to pay rates.

  3. The Rate Collector’s book for each
    District respectively shall be the ratepayers
    roll for the district to which such book
    refers.

to be Inspector of Weights and Measures
for the Grey District, and Constable

James Douglas
to be Inspector of Weights and Measures
for the Hokitika District.

Provincial Council, and assented to by
the Superintendent of Westland on behalf of
the Governor, intituled

“The Education Ordinance, 1874;”
“The Trespass and Impounding Ordinance, 1874;”
“The Appropriation Ordinance, 1874;”
and
“The Hokitika Street Closing Ordinance, 1874,”

having been laid before the Governor, His
Excellency has not been advised to exercise
his power of disallowance in respect of the same.
