PROVINCE OF WESTLAND GAZETTE.

vice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony of New Zealand, did proclaim that the blocks of land described in the Schedule to the said Order in Council were set apart and reserved to establish settlements for colonisation upon the terms in the said seventy-eighth Section mentioned: And whereas by Sub-Section 6 of the said seventy-eighth Section mentioned, it is provided that the Chairman of the County Council, with the advice of the Waste Lands Board, may cause reserves to be made for the use of the County and for public purposes in any parts of the land set apart in each such settlement as aforesaid, either before or after the same may be laid out as town, suburban, or rural land respectively:

And whereas by "The Province of Westland Act, 1873," it is, among other things, enacted that all powers at the time of the first election of a Superintendent of the said Province vested in the Chairman of the County Council of Westland, either solely or with the advice or on the recommendation of the County Council of the said County, except such powers as are contained in the parts of the Acts repealed by the said "Province of Westland Act, 1873," shall, within the Province of Westland, so far as applicable to the circumstances of the said Province, be vested in the Superintendent of the said Province:

And whereas at a sitting of the Waste Lands Board held on the fifth day of May last, it was resolved that the Board advise the Superintendent to make the reserves specified in the annexed Schedule.

Now therefore, I, Francis Christopher Tabart, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Westland, with the advice of the Waste Lands Board of the said Province, do hereby proclaim and declare that the blocks of land described in the Schedule hereto shall be, and the same are hereby set apart and reserved for the several purposes set opposite each block.

Given under my hand, at Hokitika, and sealed with the Seal of the Province, this 7th day of September, 1874.

Description of Reserves to be made in Special Settlement Block No. III.

For a Cemetery.
Eleven (11) acres, more or less, situate in the Okarito District, on the south side of Okarito Town Belt, commencing at a point being the intersection of a line drawn in continuation of the western side of East Road with the south side of said Town Belt, a distance of eleven (11) chains; thence south-westerly, at a right-angle, a distance of eleven (11) chains; and thence north-easterly, at a right-angle, a distance of (10) chains to the commencing point.

For a Recreation Ground.
One hundred and forty (140) acres, more or less, bounded on the westward, northward, and eastward by the Okarito Lagoon, and on the south by a straight line through island traverse peg No. 5, bearing 90 deg. magnetic.

For Provincial Government Purposes.
One hundred and fifty (150) acres, more or less, bounded on the westward, south-westward, and eastward by the Okarito Lagoon, and on the north by a straight line, through island traverse peg No. 5, bearing 90 deg. magnetic.

For Gold-mining Purposes.
Seven hundred (700) acres, more or less, situate on the ocean beach, south of Okarito, commencing at the south bank of the Totara-Kai Torea, and extending southerly to the north bank of the Waiho River, and of a width of twenty chains.

It is hereby notified for general information, that the first election of members to form the Local School Committees, under the "Westland Education Ordinance, 1874," will be held in the several Educational Districts on Thursday, the eighth day of October next.

The nomination of candidates must be signed by two ratepayers of the district for which the candidate is nominated, and also by the candidate himself as agreeing thereto.

All nominations must be left with the Returning Officer of such last mentioned district before 4 o’clock p.m. of Thursday, the 1st day of October next, at the place fixed for taking the poll in the respective districts.
