A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the 38th Clause of an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Westland intituled “The Trespass and Impounding Ordinance, 1874,” Session II. No. 3, it is enacted that if any cattle shall be found wandering at large within the limits of any town, the owner thereof shall be liable to a fine of not less than two shillings and sixpence nor more than one pound for every head of cattle so trespassing, and it shall be lawful for any one thereupon to impound such cattle:

And whereas by the 39th Clause of the said Ordinance, it is enacted that if any cattle shall be found tethered in any street, thoroughfare, or other public place within the limits of any town so as to obstruct the same, it shall be lawful for any person to impound such cattle, and the owner thereof shall be liable to a fine of not less than five shillings, nor more than one pound, for every head of cattle so tethered:

And whereas by the 40th Clause of the said Ordinance, it is enacted that if any cattle shall be found at large in any street, thoroughfare, or other public place within the limits of any town between sunset and sunrise, the owner thereof shall be liable to a fine of not less than one shilling, nor more than twenty shillings, for every head of cattle so wandering:

And whereas by the 43rd Clause of the said Ordinance, it is enacted that in the construction and for the purposes of the said Ordinance, the term “cattle” shall be deemed and taken to mean and to include horses, mares, geldings, colts, fillies, asses, mules, bulls, cows, oxen, heifers, steers, calves, rams, ewes, sheep, lambs, goats, and swine; and the word “town” shall be taken to mean any town which may be proclaimed as such by the Superintendent of the Province.
