£100 REWARD.
WHEREAS George Henry Chamberlain and Isaac Levy, two prisoners of the Crown, did, on March 7, at 3 p.m., make their escape from legal custody while at work with the Hard Labor Gang, about three miles from Hokitika, on the Arahura Road, it is hereby notified a Reward of £50 will be paid for the apprehension of either of them, and £100 for the apprehension of both.

Description of escaped prisoners:—
George Henry Chamberlain—English;
44 years of age; 5ft. 5in. high, medium build, small feet, slightly bow-legged, dark complexion, bushy eyebrows, speaks with a sharp tone, very talkative, teeth much stained with tobacco. Tin and locksmith by trade. Had on straw hat with Gaol brands, also twill shirt and moleskin trousers, branded. Shaved last week, hair on face very strong and dark, had a very thick head of dark hair inclined to grey, slight stoop in shoulders. Marks of flogging on back.
Sentenced last September at the Supreme Court, Hokitika, to ten years penal servitude.
Isaac Levy—Native of Portugal;
41 years of age; 5ft. 4in. high, medium build, dark complexion, grey eyes, Jewish nose (slightly inclined to the right), very bald on top of head, hair over ears very long and worn down over back of neck, shaved last Sunday, two large scars on top of head, slightly pockmarked, eyes deep set, scars on brows, nearly all teeth out; “E.L.” and mermaid on right arm. Had on twill shirt with Gaol brands, moleskin trousers and straw hat at the time of escape.
Sentenced to eight years penal servitude at Supreme Court, Hokitika, in 1871.

IT is hereby notified for general information, that the Special Claim granted to the Victorian Co-operative Company, situate at the Kanieri is cancelled, and the ground is now open for occupation.
