PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the thirty-second clause
of "The Gold Fields Act, 1866," it is
enacted that any person holding a lease of
auriferous land under the provisions of the
said Act or any preceding Act authorising
the granting of leases for mining purposes,
shall be entitled at any time, with the con-
sent of the Governor, to surrender the same,
either for the whole or any part thereof, and
it shall be lawful for the Governor at his
discretion to accept such surrender either in
whole or in part, and if such surrender is
for a part only, to reduce the rent payable
by the lessee proportionately, provided that a
lessee shall not be entitled to make such
surrender in part more than twice during the
currency of the lease :
And whereas, by the one hundred and
ninth section of the said Act, it is enacted
that it shall be lawful for the Governor in
Council under his hand and the public seal
of the Colony, from time to time, to delegate
to such person as the Governor may think
fit all or any of the powers vested in the
Governor by the said Act, except the powers
conferred by sections twenty-two, forty,
forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one
hundred and seven thereof, subject or not
to any limitations or restrictions as he may
think fit :
And whereas, by an instrument in writing,
dated the twenty-seventh day of January,
1871, and published in The New Zealand
Gazette of the seventh day of March, 1871,
His Excellency the Governor did, under his
hand and the public seal of the Colony,
delegate unto me, Henry Hermann Lahman,
Chairman of the County Council of Westland,
all the powers vested in the Governor under
or by virtue of "The Gold Fields Act, 1866,"
and "The Gold Fields Act Amendment Act,
1869," except the powers conferred by
sections twenty-two, forty, forty-eight, sixty,
ninety-six, and one hundred and seven of
"The Gold Fields Act, 1866," to have, hold,
and exercise the said powers hereby delegated
to me, the said Henry Hermann Lahman,
within the County of Westland :
Now therefore, I, Henry Hermann Lah-
man, Chairman of the County Council of
Westland, in exercise of the powers vested
in me in that behalf, do hereby notify that I
accept from the Excelsior Gold Mining Com-
pany, Okarito, a surrender of seven acres,
and do hereby reduce the rent payable
by the aforesaid Company to fifteen pounds.
Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this
second day of August, one thousand

directs it to be notified for general in-
formation that, in accordance with the
resolution of the County Council passed on
the 1st August, 1871, he has rescinded the
appointment of the School Committees
gazetted in The County of Westland
Gazette No 8, of the 15th April, 1869.

IT is hereby notified that the boundaries of
BLOCK XXIV. (rural) as gazetted in
The County of Westland Gazette No. 17,
of the 5th October, 1868, have been extended
by the Waste Lands Board as follows:β
BLOCK XXIV. (RURAL).
Situate in the Arahura District: Bounded
on the north by German Gully, on the west
and south by the Waimea Creek, and on the
east by the Two-Mile line; subject to roads,
reserves, and gold workings.
