PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Marine Act, 1867," it is enacted that the Superintendent of each Province is thereby empowered and required subject to the provisions of the said Act, and of any Bye Laws or regulations to be made thereunder by the Governor, from time to time to impose and levy rates, dues, and charges for the use of docks, wharves, piers, and jetties, and for the landing of goods, wares, and merchandise thereat and thereon, and such rates and charges to alter and abolish:
And whereas it is by the said Act also enacted that for the prevention of doubts and disputes as to the limits of any wharf, pier, or dock, it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of any Province from time to time, as occasion may require, by proclamation for that purpose published in the Gazette of the Province, to define the limits and boundaries, for the purposes of this Act, of any wharf, quay, pier, or dock, within such Province, and such proclamation from time to time to revoke, and in manner aforesaid to re-define such limits and boundaries, and every wharf, quay, pier, or dock so defined or re-defined shall be a wharf, quay, pier, or dock within the meaning and for the purposes of this Act, and the limits and boundaries so defined or re-defined shall be deemed to be the limits and boundaries of the same:
And whereas by "The County of Westland Act, 1868," it is enacted that all powers at the time of the coming into operation of "The County of Westland Act, 1867," vested in the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury either solely or with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province by any Act of the General Assembly, or by any Ordinance mentioned in the second Schedule to "The County of Westland Act, 1868," except so far as any such powers have been divested, varied, or altered by law on or since the coming into operation of "The County of Westland Act, 1867," shall, within the County so far as applicable to the circumstances of the said County, be vested in the Chairman of the County Council:
And whereas doubts and disputes have arisen as to the limits of the wharf in the Port of Hokitika and it is expedient to settle the same:
Now therefore, I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of Westland, do hereby define the limits and boundaries for the purposes of this Act of the wharf at the port of Hokitika, and do declare that the said wharf shall contain in addition to and beyond the piece or parcel of land known as Gibson’s Quay, particularly described in "The Gibson’s Quay Ordinance, 1866," all that the frontage to the north bank of the River Hokitika commencing at the west side of Wharf street, and extending thence to the mouth of the said river; and also all that the ocean frontage extending from the mouth of the said River Hokitika to the northern boundary of the town, and having an uniform width throughout of one chain. And I do further impose and levy the rates, dues, and charges for the use of the said wharf and for the landing of goods, wares, and merchandise thereat and thereon, and do declare that from and after the thirteenth day of October,
