person as the Governor may think fit all or
any of the powers vested in the Governor by
the said Act, except the powers conferred by
sections twenty-two, forty, forty-eight, sixty,
ninety-six, and one hundred and seven thereof,
subject or not to any limitations or restrictions
as he may think fit:

And whereas by an instrument in writing,
dated the third day of February, 1869, and
published in the New Zealand Gazette of
the eighth day of February, 1869, His Ex-
cellency the Governor did, under his hand and
the Public Seal of the Colony, delegate unto
me, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County
Council of the County of Westland, all the
powers vested in the Governor under or
by virtue of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,”
except the powers conferred by sections seven-
two, thirty, thirty-three, thirty-nine,
forty, forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and
one hundred and seven of the said Act, to
have, hold, and exercise the said powers
hereby delegated to me within the County of
Westland:

Now, therefore, I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman
of the County Council of the County of
Westland, in exercise of the powers in that
behalf delegated to me, do hereby grant unto
Messrs. Kilgour and Co., subject to the Regu-
lations adopted by the County Council and
published in the County of Westland Gazette,
No. 7, of the 24th March, 1869, a renewal of
protection for their tramway from Greymouth
to Saltwater, being a distance of five miles
and seven chains, and do hereby authorise the
collection of the undermentioned tolls: Pro-
vided that the Government may, should it
be deemed advisable, construct a road which
may cross the tramway or run parallel to the
same for a distance of one mile, without being
liable to pay compensation to the company.
Provided also, that the line of tramway is
kept on the ocean side of the Railway
Reserve throughout, and is subject, within
the town boundary of Greymouth, to the
approval of the Borough Council of Grey-
mouth.

The protection to date from 8th July,
1870.

Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this
fourth day of August, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy.

that the following scale of tolls, to be
charged upon the Arahura Road, has been
adopted by the County Council.

SCHEDULE OF TOLLS TO BE CHARGED ON THE ARAHURA ROAD.

All drays and vehicles drawn by one horse 1 6
For each additional horse 0 6
For all buggies, cabs, traps, used for pleasure, drawn by one horse 2 6
For each additional horse 0 6
Waggons or coaches, with four wheels, drawn by two horses 2 6
For each additional horse 0 6
Each horse ridden 1 0
Each horse, carrying pack, &c. 0 6
Cattle and asses, per head (driven on road or beach) 0 6

All carts carrying manure free

All vehicles and horses carrying goods to and from Tramway Station at Arahura to be exempt from tolls.

All cattle passed through toll-gate to sale yard, and disposed of, to be driven North, to be exempt from tolls.

The above tolls will only be chargeable one way.
