NOTICE is hereby given that, in conformity with the "Regulations under which Tramway Companies may Receive Protection from Government," passed by the County Council of the County of Westland, on the 24th day of February, 1869, I hereby make application for protection for the Hokitika and Greymouth Tramway Company’s line from Hokitika to Stafford Town; and all persons, who may object to protection being granted for said line, must lodge such objections, in writing, at the County Chairman’s Office within twenty-one days from this date.

THE following persons have been appointed to maintain Ferries in the County of Westland, from the 1st April, 1869, on the terms as stated below, subject to the Conditions under which Ferries may be leased from the County Council, published in the County of Westland Gazette, of the 13th March, No. 6.

I.—OKARITO FERRY.
JOHN JACKSON.

  1. The ferry to be worked by a punt, and by boats.

  2. The amount of subsidy to be £50 per annum.

  3. Occupation allowed of a strip of land on the North Spit up to the Cemetery, leaving a road on the lagoon side, and giving up part or the whole when required; compensation for improvements being allowed.

  4. Protection allowed on the north side of the lagoon, half a mile each way from the point at which the punt or boat starts; but no licensed boat landing passengers, or any private boat employed by the owner for his own use, to be interfered with by the lessees, and no licensed boat shall be permitted to take up passengers on the north side of the lagoon.

  5. Term of lease, five years.

  6. Schedule of charges:—

    s. d.
    For a horse and rider ... 2 6
    For a horse without rider ... 2 0
    For every passenger ... 1 0
    For sheep, per head ... 0 3
    For goods, per cwt. ... 1 0
    Expenses of funerals to be defrayed by Government 5 0

  7. Police and prisoners, and Government Officers, on duty, free of charge.

II.—WAITANGI AND WAITOTARA.

  1. The ferry to be worked by boat.

  2. The amount of subsidy to be £50 per annum.

  3. The occupation allowed of 25 acres of land on north bank.

  4. Protection allowed on both sides of the river for half a mile each way, from the point at which boat starts.

  5. Term of lease, five years.

  6. Schedule of charges:—

    s. d.
    For every horse, with or without rider ... 3 0
    For every passenger ... 2 0

  7. Police and prisoners, and Government Officers, on duty, free of charge.

III.—SALTWATER.
JOHN ALLEN.

  1. The same as in No. 2.

  2. The same as in No. 2.

  3. The occupation allowed of 25 acres of land, behind the Maori Reserve, on north bank.

  4. Protection allowed on both sides of the river for half a mile each way, from the point where the boat starts, except for horsemen when fordable.

  5. Same as in No. 2.

  6. Schedule of charges:—
