PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Marine Act, 1867,” it is enacted that the Governor shall, from time to time, as occasion may require, make and issue Quarantine Regulations to be in force within any part or parts of the Colony :

And whereas, by an Order in Council, dated the twenty-fifth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, certain Quarantine Regulations for the several ports and harbors of the Colony of New Zealand were made and promulgated :

And whereas, by the 114th Section of the Quarantine Regulations, it is declared that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, upon the recommendation of the Board of Health, to appoint any station or place within any port or harbor for the performance of quarantine, where all vessels liable to quarantine, and the crews, passengers, and other persons on board thereof, shall perform the same; and also, if necessary, to appoint lazarets and other places, where the crews, passengers, and other persons, and the goods, wares, and merchandise, which shall or may be on board the said vessels, shall and may be detained, landed, and kept for the performance of quarantine :

And whereas, the Boards of Health for the respective ports of Hokitika and Greymouth have recommended the undermentioned places to be Quarantine Stations for the County of Westland.

And whereas, by “The County of Westland Act, 1868,” it is enacted that all powers which at the time of the coming into operation of “The County of Westland Act, 1867,” vested in the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, either solely or with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, by any Act of the General Assembly, or by any Ordinance mentioned in the second Schedule to “The County of Westland Act, 1868,” shall, within the said County, so far as applicable to the circumstances of the said County, be vested in the Chairman of the County Council.

Now therefore, I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of the County of Westland, in exercise of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby appoint the undermentioned places to be Quarantine Stations for the County of Westland :

PORT OF HOKITIKA.

A radius of three cables lengths around a buoy, bearing from Flagstaff on north bank of Hokitika River, 264deg. 55min., or W. ½ S. ; distance, 172 chains, or 2 miles 12 chains.

From Flagstaff on south bank of the Hokitika River, 289deg. 5min., or W.N.W.

PORT OF GREYMOUTH.

All vessels to stand off not nearer than one mile and a half from Point Elizabeth.
