PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Canterbury, entitled “The Canterbury Police Ordinance, 1858, Session X., No. 1,” it is provided that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by Proclamation, to declare the said Ordinance to be in operation within any town upon the requisition to that effect from a majority of the Justices of the Peace of the district in which such town is situate:
And whereas, by an Act of the General Assembly, entitled “The County of Westland Act, 1868,” it is provided that all powers which, at the time of the coming into operation of “The County of Westland Act, 1867,” were vested in the Superintendent of the said Province, either solely or with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, by any Act of the General Assembly, or by any Ordinance mentioned in the Schedule to the said “County of Westland Act, 1868,” annexed, except as therein is excepted, shall, within the said County, become vested in the Chairman of the County Council of the County Council. And whereas the said “Canterbury Police Ordinance, 1858,” Session X., No. 1, is included in the Schedule to the said Act: And whereas I have been required by a majority of the Justices of the Peace for the districts of Goldsborough, Stafford, Kanieri, and Ross, to declare the said Ordinance to be in operation within such districts:
Now therefore I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of Westland, do hereby, upon the requisition of a majority of the Justices of the Peace for the several districts hereinafter mentioned, proclaim and declare that the said “Canterbury Police Ordinance” shall be, and the same is hereby brought into operation in the townships of Goldsborough, Stafford, Kanieri, and Ross.
Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this eleventh day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled “The Cattle Trespass Ordinance, No. 2, Session XVII., No. 13,” it is provided that if any cattle shall be found wandering at large within the limits of any town, or shall be found tethered in any street, thoroughfare, or other public place within the limits of any town, or so immediately adjoining to such street, thoroughfare, or public place as to obstruct the same, it shall be lawful for any person to impound such cattle; and the owner thereof shall be liable to a fine of not less than Five Shillings, nor more than One Pound, for every head of cattle so trespassing or so tethered.
And whereas, by an Act of the General Assembly, entitled “The County of Westland Act, 1868,” it is provided that all powers which at the time of the coming into operation of “The County of Westland Act, 1867,” were vested in the Superintendent
