THE following Regulations of the Council of the Borough of Greymouth have been forwarded to the Chairman of the County Council, who directs it to be notified that he does not dissent from them. They are published for general information, under the 191st clause of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867."

REGULATION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF GREYMOUTH, MADE UNDER SECTION 1 OF PART 5 OF THE THIRTEENTH SCHEDULE OF "THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS ACT, 1867."

The Council of the Borough of Greymouth make the following Regulations: That is to say,--

REGULATIONS, ETC., OF BUILDINGS.

First. It shall not be lawful for any person to construct, alter, or renew any building or roof, unless in accordance with the following Regulations:--The external walls of all buildings, except the front walls thereof, and all alterations, repairs, or renewals of such external walls, shall be covered with iron; and, in case of any building being erected on wooden blocks, such blocks shall be covered with iron; and the iron of all external walls and blocks shall be carried down to a depth of not less than six inches below the surface of the soil.

Second. It shall not be lawful for any person to construct, alter, renew, or repair any chimney, flue, smoke-vent, or stove-pipe, except in accordance with the following Regulations: That is to say,--

Third. All chimneys, and all alterations, repairs, or renewals to the same shall be built of stone, brick, or iron, and no wood or other combustible materials shall be used in the erection thereof, nor shall any iron chimney, flue, or stove-pipe be placed within nine inches of any wood-work or other combustible materials.

Fourth. All chimneys shall be built up inside with bricks to a height of not less than four feet, and the fireplace bedded with not less than two thicknesses of bricks, with sheet iron underneath if built on wood; and every chimney shall have a hearth of bricks or sheet iron to extend out in front of the fireplace not less than eighteen inches.

Fifth. These Regulations, as far as relate to the covering of all external walls with iron, shall extend only to the following parts of the Borough, namely:--Mawhera and Richmond Quays, and the following streets: Custom House, Marion, Waite, Wierita, Tainui, Albert, Boundary, Johnston, and Arney Streets, including the north sides of Mackay and Gresson Streets.

Sixth. It shall be lawful for the Corporation to make any charge not exceeding one guinea for the services of the Town Surveyor for any inspection or superintendence made under and in pursuance of these Regulations.

Passed by the Council of the Borough of Greymouth, this twenty-ninth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
