any person for any term not exceeding fifteen
years from the making of the lease, certain
auriferous Crown lands not exceeding ten
acres in the whole of alluvial ground, and to
grant sites for machinery and any necessary
easements for the purposes aforesaid, subject
nevertheless to the conditions or provisions
in the said section contained.
And whereas His Excellency Sir George
Fergusson Bowen, the Governor of New
Zealand, did, on the third day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and sixtynine, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the Colony, delegate
to me, Conrad Hoos, the Chairman of
the County Council of the County of Westland, the powers vested in him by the said
twenty-ninth section of “The Gold Fields Act,
1866,” exercisable within the said County,
now therefore I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of
the County Council, do hereby give notice
that, on the 20th day of July, 1869, I intend
to demise to the persons named in the schedule
hereto annexed certain auriferous Crown
lands of alluvial ground for the terms specified in the said schedule.
Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this
ninth day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and sixtynine.

The following tender of Messrs Cassius
and Comiskey for the supply of forage,
coals, &c., to the Government of the County
of Westland, during the six months ending
31st December, 1869, has been accepted:—
Best Grey River coals, £2 17s. 6d. per ton;
oats, per bushel, 4s. 3d. (bags, 1s. 3d. each);
Adelaide bran, per bushel, 2s. 3d. (bags 1s. each);
best pressed chaff, per ton, £17 10s.;
best sperm candles, per lb., 1s. 1½d. by the
box; kerosene oil, per gallon, 3s. 5d. per
case; colza oil, per gallon, 7s. 6d.

The tender of Captain C. S. Bascand, of
the steamer “Waipara,” for the performance of a bi-monthly steam service from
Hokitika to Okarito, Jackson’s Bay, Big
Bay, and Martin’s Bay; returning the same
way. Landing and taking up cargo and
passengers from any of the Ports, at the
following rates:—
Passengers for Okarito, Saloon ... £2 10 0
... Steerage ... 1 10 0
Southern Ports, Saloon ... 4 0 0
... Steerage ... 3 0 0
Cargo to Okarito, per ton ... 3 0 0
Southern Ports, taken from the vessel’s side ... 3 10 0
Cargo to Southern Ports, per ton, landed ... 4 10 0
All mails, Government Officers (not exceeding five in number), Government cargo (not exceeding five tons), to be conveyed free of charge.
The contract to be binding for six months,
and the penalty on either side for breach of
the same to be a sum equal to the amount of
two months’ subsidy, unless arising from
stranding or accident over which there is no
control.
The subsidy to be at the rate of one
hundred and forty seven pounds (£147) for
each trip—once every two months; and
demurrage, ten pounds (£10) a day.

No. 3,” I hereby give notice that the under-

of Messrs Cashman and party placing
another punt on the Totara River, and maintaining the same, and good approaches
thereto, to the satisfaction of the County
Engineer, and shifting the punt when
required by the County Engineer or the
County Chairman, I have extended protection
to the said Cashman and party at the same
rates as those published in the County of
Westland Gazette No. 8, of the 15th of
April, 1869, for the period of two years
from the 1st October, 1869.
