A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Lieutenant-Governor and Legislative Council of New Zealand, intituled “An Ordinance for the Regulation of Prisons,” it is provided that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, from time to time, as to him shall seem meet, by proclamation, to declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a public gaol:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the said power, do hereby proclaim and declare The Police Lock-up situated on Reserve 411, in the Town of Hokitika, in the County of Westland, to be a public gaol.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, at Wellington, and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this twenty-second day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

Hokitika, 4th April, 1868.

THE HONOURABLE JOHN HALL directs it to be notified that by virtue of the powers delegated to him by His Excellency the Governor in that behalf, he has appointed Richard White to be Gaoler to the Lower Gaol, on Reserve 441, Hokitika. This appointment to date from the 22nd day of February, 1868.

THE HONOURABLE JOHN HALL directs it to be notified that by virtue of the powers delegated to him by His Excellency the Governor in that behalf, he has appointed Thomas Sugrue to be Inspector of Slaughter Houses for the Ross District.

Hokitika, 4th April, 1868.

THE HONOURABLE JOHN HALL directs it to be notified that the resignation of ROBERT ABBOTT, ESQUIRE, as member and Chairman of the Westland Board of Education, was accepted by His Honor the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury on the 23rd day of December, 1867, and that the said Robert Abbott, Esquire, ceased to be member and chairman of the said Board at the above-mentioned date.
