SCHEDULE OF SUBJECTS FOR EXAMINATION FOR PUPIL TEACHERS DURING THEIR ENGAGEMENT.

[A Pupil may be admitted at the end of any year provided the examination is passed for that year, and the Candidate is not under the required age.]

Age Religious Knowledge. Reading and Repetition. English Grammar and Composition. Arithmetic. (Parts in brackets for male pupils only.) Geography. History. Teaching. Additional Subjects. (Any two of the subjects mentioned must be taken in the last three years and increased knowledge shown each year.) Payments.
On admission ... 13 To read fluently Parts of speech. Write a passage of prose from dictation. First four rules of Arithmetic, simple and compound. Definitions and principal parts of the world. To give an easy object lesson to a young class. 1. Drawing
End of 1st year ... 14 Genesis, Matthew. To read with fluency and expression. Parts of a simple sentence. Noun, verb, and adjective. Simple, vulgar [and decimal] fractions. Outlines of New Zealand. An outline knowledge of leading events in English history. Same as above with increased skill. 2. Latin— Principia Part I.
End of 2nd year ... 15 Same as above Improved reading Pronoun, adverb, and preposition. Write an easy narrative after hearing it read. Increased knowledge of fractions. Europe. British history to Norman invasion. To teach a class to satisfaction of Inspector. 3. French— Deliile's 1st Book
End of 3rd year ... 16 Same as above Same as above. Repeat 50 lines of poetry. Conjunction. Composition of short original narrative. Practice and proportion, simple [and compound]. British Isles British history to accession of Henry VII. Same as above. 4. Physical Geography
