The presiding officer or one of
his assistants the name of the
candidate for whom he desires
to vote and the said presiding
officer or assistant shall enter
the same in the poll book and
cause the voter to sign his name
or set his mark thereto.

  1. The presiding officer shall as soon
    as conveniently may be after the
    close of the poll ascertain the
    number of votes given for each
    candidate and shall declare that
    candidate in whose favour the
    greatest number of votes shall
    appear to have been given to be
    duly elected. In case of equality
    of votes for two or more candidates the number or members
    shall be chosen from such candidates by lot.

  2. When the presiding officer has declared any candidate duly elected he shall
    forthwith send to the Superintendent
    notice in writing of the name of such
    candidate for publication in the Provincial
    Gazette.


Proclamation.

By His Honor William Fitzherbert,
Esquire, C.M.G., Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in the Colony of New
Zealand.

WHEREAS by a Proclamation bearing
date the 20th day of July, 1874,
under the hand of the Superintendent,
issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Wellington, and published in the
Government Gazette of the said Province,
on the 31st day of July, 1874, the following among other regulations was made in
reference to candidates applying for the
appointment of Pilot for the Port of Wellington:—

"The candidate applying for
the appointment of Pilot for the Port of
Wellington must have served at least one
year as Master of a square-rigged sailing
vessel, of not less than two hundred tons
register." And whereas it is expedient to
amend the said regulation: Now, therefore, I, William Fitzherbert, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, do
hereby proclaim and declare that, by
virtue of the delegated powers vested in
me under and by virtue of "The Marine
Act, 1867," the above-mentioned regulation shall be cancelled, and further I do
hereby proclaim and declare that the
regulation in the Schedule hereto shall
come into operation and shall be in force

on and after the 3rd day of December,
1875.

eight hundred and seventy-
five.

SCHEDULE.

Candidates applying for the appointment
of Pilot for the Port of Wellington must
have served at least one year as Master of
a square-rigged sailing vessel of not less
than two hundred tons register; or shall
have served one year at least in the
capacity of Coxswain in the Pilot service
of the Province of Wellington.
