  1. That all children under twelve (12) years of age shall be allowed to pass and repass the bridge for the purpose of attending school upon payment to the Toll Collector of five shillings per quarter, payable in advance, and on producing a certificate from the master or mistress of the school at which such child attends to the effect that such child is attending such school, and is likely to be a regular attender thereat for the ensuing three months.

  2. The owner of any cattle found wandering at large shall be liable on conviction to a penalty in respect thereof of not less than one shilling per head nor more than twenty shillings per head for great cattle, and not less than sixpence per head nor more than ten shillings per head for small cattle, and in the construction of this and the next succeeding clause the words "great cattle" shall be taken to mean horses, geldings, mares, colts, fillies, asses, mules, bulls, oxen, cows, heifers, steers, and calves; "small cattle" shall be taken to mean rams, ewes, wethers, lambs, goats, and swine; and the word "cattle" shall mean both great cattle and small cattle.

  3. Any cattle found wandering at large may be impounded by any person or persons, and the owner thereof shall not be entitled to redeem the same until he shall have paid the poundage fees for the time being payable in respect of cattle impounded by reason of their trespassing on occupied land; and all laws for the time being in force in reference to the impounding of cattle trespassing on land shall apply to the case of cattle impounded by reason of their wandering at large so far as such laws are not repugnant to this bye-law.

  4. Cattle when being driven to the pound may be released by the owner on his or her paying to the poundkeeper previous to such cattle being impounded the sum of one shilling per head for great cattle, and sixpence per head for small cattle, in addition to an amount sufficient to cover any damage which may have been caused by such cattle.

  5. Regulation No. 2 of the said Council is hereby repealed. Any person who shall drive cattle through any part of the borough of Wanganui between the hours of eight o’clock a.m. and five o’clock p.m., without giving one half hour’s previous notice of his intention so to do to the person for the time being in charge of the Police Force in the said Borough shall be liable on conviction to a penalty not exceeding five pounds. Provided that nothing herein contained shall apply to horses driven in harness or to oxen in yoke.

  6. Clause 7 of Part VII of the 13th Schedule to "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867," shall be read as if the word "furze" occurred immediately after the word "bushes" therein, and as if the following words occurred at the end of such clause—"that is to say." Provided always that this clause shall not apply to any furze hedge which is kept properly trimmed to the satisfaction of some person to be appointed in that behalf by the Council, and which is at least one chain distant from any building and is kept from encroaching on any thoroughfare.

  7. Any person who shall neglect to cut down any thistles or furze growing on land in his occupation, or on any thoroughfare on which such land may abut, for the period of three days after having received notice to cut down the same from some person appointed in that behalf by the Council, shall on conviction forfeit any sum not exceeding five pounds.
