When any goods or articles are transhipped from one vessel to another alongside the wharf without being placed on or carried over the wharf, tolls at half the above rates shall be charged, except for coal, which shall in that case be free.

Goods of all kinds carried in hand shall be free.

Passenger vehicles shall pay sixpence for each time of going on the wharf.

Bye-Law No. 6.
BYE-LAW of the Council of the Borough of Wanganui, made under special order of the said Council, dated the Seventeenth day of March, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four, confirmed the Twenty-fourth day of April, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four, and sealed with the common seal of the said Borough this Twenty-fourth day of April, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.
In pursuance of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867” and “The Wanganui Bridge and Wharf Act, 1872,” the Council of the Borough of Wanganui ordain as follows, that is to say—

On and after the first day of September, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four, Earth Closets shall be used at every Dwellinghouse, Hotel, Office, and Shop, within that portion of the Borough bounded north-east by the Market Place, north-west by Ridgway Street, south-west by Wilson Street, and south-east by Taupo Quay.

If the Occupier for the time being of any Dwellinghouse, Hotel, Office, or Shop, within the portion of the Borough hereinafter defined shall neglect to have and maintain such Earth Closet as aforesaid, or shall refuse to allow the Inspector of Nuisances to enter upon and view the premises in his occupation, at all reasonable hours, or shall neglect to give notice to the nightman duly authorised by the Council, when any earth-closet on the premises shall require emptying, or shall refuse to allow the nightman appointed by the Council to enter upon the premises in his occupation at all reasonable hours for the purpose of emptying any such earth-closet, he shall in any such case be liable on conviction to any penalty not exceeding five pounds.

The occupier for the time being as aforesaid shall pay to the nightman the sum of two shillings and sixpence for and in respect of each emptying of any earth-closet on the premises of such occupier.

On and after the first day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four, the following tolls shall be payable at the Wanganui Bridge, in lieu of those now payable in respect of the same, foot-passengers, animals, and vehicles, and as regards vehicles whether such vehicles shall be loaded or unloaded.
Section I.—For every two-wheeled vehicle, with or without springs, drawn by one horse ... 1 0
For every additional horse ... 0 6
For every four-wheeled vehicle, with springs, drawn by one horse ... 1 6
For every additional horse ... 0 6
For every saddle horse ... 0 6
Provided that no tolls shall be taken on such vehicles or animals as shall repass on the same day, reckoning from midnight.
Section II.—For every timber wain drawn by two horses ... 2 0

For every four-wheeled vehicle, without springs, drawn by two horses ... 2 0

For every other horse not in harness, and head of other great cattle ... 0 3

- The Toll Collector shall issue a return ticket to any horseman or person driving any such vehicle as mentioned in Section I of the last preceding clause, which ticket shall not be transferable, and in the event of such person desiring to repass any such vehicle or animal through the toll-gate on the same day, and not surrendering his return ticket, he shall be liable to pay toll again.
