THE following Rules, passed by the Wanganui Acclimatization Society, have been registered in the Office of His Honor the Superintendent, in accordance with the provisions of the fourth clause of “The Protection of Animals Act, 1873.”

Rules of the Wanganui Acclimatization Society.

This Association shall be called “The Wanganui Acclimatization Society.”

The objects of this Society shall be the introduction, acclimatization, and domestication of all animals, birds, fishes, and plants, whether useful or ornamental.

The Society shall consist of a chairman, life members, members, and honorary members.

Every donor of ten pounds, in one sum, shall become a life member; every subscriber of one guinea per annum shall be a member.

The Committee may confer the honorary membership on such persons as have, in an especial manner, contributed to the objects of the Society.

The office-bearers shall consist of a Chairman and a Committee of members, exclusive of the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, who shall be members ex officio; three to form a quorum at all meetings.

The Chairman and Committee of Management shall be elected at each annual general meeting of members, after which the meeting shall proceed to elect an Honorary Secretary and Treasurer; the same meeting shall then elect an Auditor, whose duty shall be to audit the accounts of the Society at the termination of each year.

Any vacancies which may occur in the Committee, or its officers during the year shall be filled up by the said Committee.

The Committee shall meet on the first Tuesdays in January, April, July, and October, to conduct the business of the Society.

All meetings of the Committee shall be called together by the Secretary by circular, issued not less than four days previous to the day of meeting.

The annual general meeting of members shall be held in January.

The Committee shall have power to call such general meetings of members as may appear to it desirable.

At all meetings a majority of votes shall decide a question. The Chairman shall have an original and casting vote.

It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep the minutes, and generally to give effect to the resolutions of the Society.

The Treasurer shall keep account of all moneys received and paid, and make out a balance sheet to be produced at each annual meeting. He shall keep a list of all members, with their addresses.

The annual subscriptions shall be due on the first day of January in each year.

No alteration or addition to these Rules shall be made unless at a general meeting, or special meeting called for the purpose.

IN accordance with the provisions contained in the eighteenth section of “The Local Boards Act, 1873,” his Honor the Superintendent has appointed that the first meeting of the Greytown Local Board shall take place on Thursday, the 28th day of May, 1874, at the Wairarapa Institute, Greytown, at 12 o’clock noon.
