Sheep Inspector's Report and Crown Grants

SHEEP INSPECTOR’S REPORT—continued.

A decided improvement in the class of sheep can be seen throughout the district. Flockowners are turning their attention to quality in preference to quantity. There has been an unusual increase of lambs this year, and a good clip of wool generally expected.

I find that the returns having been made in January instead of May has made a material difference in the number of sheep returned. The greater portion of last year’s lambs did not class as six months’ old sheep, as required by the Act, consequently have not been included in the returns for the present year.

ROBERT K. SIMPSON,
Inspector of Sheep.

Rangitikei, 29th November, 1873.
