Land thrown open for Selection.

Crown Lands Office,
Wellington, 23rd October, 1863.

NOTICE is hereby given that I have declined to certify to all that piece of land in the Otahuao Block, in the Wairarapa District, containing 294 acres more or less, heretofore included in the application of Joseph Bennett for 5s. land; and bounded north and north-east by the boundaries of the said Block, east by the Taweru River, south by Joseph Bennett’s application for 5s. land, south-west by Joseph Bennett’s selection of 10s land, and north-west by Joseph Bennett’s selection of 10s land and by Tamati’s reserve of 100 acres and that the said land will be open for selection at this Office on and after Thursday the 17th day of December next, under the Land Regulations of the Province of Wellington.

Upper Rangitikei Highway District.

IT is notified, for general information, that William Fox, Esq., resigned the Chairmanship of the Board of Wardens, for the above district, on the 8th Oct. last, and that John Jordan, Esq., was on that day elected in his place.

Militia and Volunteer Notices.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Auckland,
the twenty-first day of October, 1863.

Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled, the “Militia Act, 1858,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, from time to time, to constitute throughout the Colony, or in any part thereof, Militia Districts; and such Districts, from time to time, to vary and designate the Militia of any such Districts by the name of a Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Company.

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, in exercise of the above power doth, by this present order, constitute the following Militia District to be called and known by the name following, viz:—

The Castle Point District,

And doth define the said District to be all the Territory comprised within the circumference of a circle whereof the radius extends fifteen miles from Mr. Thomas Guthrie’s house at Castle Point.

And doth designate the Militia of the said District a Regiment.
