PAY AND ALLOWANCES TO MEN.

Staff Sergeants, 6s. per diem.
Sergeants 3s.
Corporals 2s. 6d.
Drummers 2s.
Privates 2s.

Pay to non-commissioned officers will be issued consecutively from the date of their promotions.

No pay will be issued to men absent from their respective battalions. Men going into Hospital will receive their pay without any allowances.

The pay of men confined for a military offence will be stopped for the days they are in confinement; if on detachment they will be provided with a commissariat ration, and when not on detachment an allowance of 1s a day will be given to them to provide for themselves.

Allowances.

When men are not called away from the locality to which the battalion belongs, they will receive pay only for the days they attend drills and parades, but if required for guards, escorts, or piquets, an allowance of 1s 6d. a day for the days they perform such duties will be admitted, in addition to their daily pay.

When men leave their homes and proceed on detachment, they will receive pay for every day they may be so situated, a ration will be issued to them free of charge, and an allowance of 6d. (sixpence) a day in addition.

Warlike Stores, &c.

WITH reference to the Proclamation of the 29th instant, declaring what articles shall be considered as Warlike Stores for the purposes of the “Arms Act, 1860,” it is hereby notified that persons dealing or desirous of dealing in any of the Articles prohibited by the said Proclamation, but not previously prohibited, may, upon application to a Licensing Officer appointed under the Act, and subject to the approval of the application by such officer, obtain the necessary License free of charge, to deal in such last-named articles, upon the terms and conditions in such License specified.

The restriction regarding Warlike Stores not to apply to Friendly Natives.

WHEREAS by a Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 6th August, 1863, it was declared the undermentioned were (among others) to be considered as Warlike Stores, viz.:

  • Hayforks, scythes, adzes, and all other edged tools of whatsoever description capable of being used as weapons
  • Iron of all kinds capable of being converted into weapons.

Now it is hereby notified for general information that the above restrictions are only to apply to those districts in which the Natives are in arms against Her Majesty’s Government.

Order in Council.

Second Sittings of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand at Wellington.

At the Government House, at Auckland, the 19th day of August, 1863.

WHEREAS by the “Court of Appeal Act, 1862,” it is enacted that the Court shall hold its sittings at such times and places as shall be from time to time fixed by the Governor in Council and proclaimed in the Government Gazette, sixty days at least before the times so fixed respectively.

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, doth hereby fix that a Sittings of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand shall be held within the Supreme Court in the City of Wellington and Province of Wellington, upon the nineteenth day of October One thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, at eleven of the clock in the forenoon.
