Election of Provincial Council Member for the Wairarapa District.

ELECTION NOTICE.

ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF WAIRARAPA.

In pursuance of the provisions of the Acts of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Provincial Elections Act, 1858," and "The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," I, Henry St. Hill, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of "Wairarapa," do hereby give notice that by virtue of a Writ, bearing date the fourteenth day of February, 1863, issued under the hand of Isaac Earl Featherston, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, an election will be held for the return of a qualified person to serve as a Member of the Provincial Council of the said Province, for the said Electoral District in the place of Charles Rooking Carter, who, having accepted a contract on account of the public service of the said Province, his seat in the said Council has become vacant; and that the nomination of candidates will take place at the School House, at Greytown, in the said Province, on Thursday, the nineteenth (19th) day of March, 1863, at noon; and that the Poll (if necessary) will be taken on Saturday the twenty-first (21st) day of March, 1863.

The following places are polling places for the Electoral District of "Wairarapa":

  • At Greytown—The School House.
  • At Masterton—The School House.
  • At Castle Point—The Premises of Mr. Guthrie.
  • At Otaki—The Premises of Mr. Archibald Gillies.

Immediate payment in cash of one-tenth of the purchase money shall be the condition of any such sale by auction, and the remaining nine-tenths of the purchase-money must be paid by the purchaser within one calendar month next after the time of such sale by auction, or the one-tenth of the purchase money which has been deposited will be forfeited, and the original contract for the sale of the land will thenceforward be null and void.

The Government reserves to itself the right of, at any time, withdrawing and altering the size of any of the allotments.

Any further conditions will be published either on or before the day of sale. In the meantime, information may be obtained, and plans inspected, on application at the Office of the Provincial Secretary, Wellington.

Trigonometrical Stations.

£50 REWARD.

WHEREAS some person or persons did on or about the 10th instant, wilfully destroy a certain Trigonometrical Station erected on a place known as "Sykes’ Hill," situated on the upper side of the Wainuiomata road.

Notice is hereby given that the above reward will be paid by the Provincial Government to any person who will give such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders.

On 25th February, 1863,

UNDER authority of an Act, Session III, No. 14, of the Provincial Council of Wellington entitled "Harbour Reserves," and of an Act, Session VIII., No. 3, of the said Provincial Council, entitled "Harbour Reserves Amendment," Notice is hereby given that the following Allotments of Land, situated in the Town of Wellington, will be offered for sale by Public Auction, at the Office of the Provincial Treasury, at Wellington, on Wednesday, the 25th day of February, 1863, at One o’clock p.m., at the upset prices affixed in the subjoined Schedule.
