A PROCLAMATION.
“Execution of Criminals Act, 1858,” to come into operation in the Province of Wellington.
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight, Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS by the “Execution of Criminals Act, 1858,” it is enacted, that the said Act shall come into operation in such part of the Colony of New Zealand as the Governor shall, by Proclamation, appoint and proclaim: I, George Grey, Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the said powers, do hereby appoint and proclaim the Province of Wellington to be a District within which the said Act shall, from the date hereof, come into operation.
Given under my hand, at the Government House, at Auckland, and issued under the Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, this sixth day of January, in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and sixty two.

WARRANT
Appointing the Public Gaol of Wellington to be a place for the Execution of Criminals.
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight, Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.
IN pursuance of the power conferred on me, by the “Execution of Criminals Act, 1858,” I, George Grey, Governor of the said Colony, do hereby appoint the Public Gaol in the City of Wellington to be a place for the Execution of Criminals under the said Act.
Given under my hand at the Government House, at Auckland, this sixth day of January, in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and sixty two.

A PROCLAMATION.
To provide for the Protection of certain Birds lately introduced into the Colony.
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight, Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.
WHEREAS by the 9th section of the “Protection of certain Animals Act, 1861,” it is provided, that the Governor of New Zealand may, by Proclamation, declare that any Animals or Birds other than those specified in the said Act, shall be protected and come under the operation of such of the provisions of the said Act, as may be specified in such Proclamation:
And whereas it is expedient that certain Birds recently imported into this Colony, and the increase arising therefrom, should be protected for a certain period:
Now, therefore I, George Grey, in virtue of the provision before recited, do hereby proclaim and declare that all Birds of the species hereinafter named respectively, that is to say, the Bird known as the “Indian Goose,” and the Bird known as the “Diver,” shall henceforth be protected and come under the operation of the Second, Sixth, Seventh, Eight, Eleventh
