Registration of Letters for the United States of America.

General Post Office,
Auckland, 15th August, 1861.

Pursuant to information received from the Right Honourable the Postmaster-General of the United Kingdom,
it is notified that arrangements have been effected whereby letters from New Zealand and the Australian Colonies, directed to the United States of America,
can now be registered through to destination, at a charge of 2s. 10½d. per half ounce letter. Out of this amount the Postmaster so registering any letter,
must account for the sum of 1s. 10½d. to the Post Office of the United Kingdom.

Warrant delegating to the Superintendent of Wellington the Governor’s power to appoint Returning Officers, &c.

By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same,
&c., &c., &c.

Whereas by the Provincial Elections Act, 1858, the Governor is empowered to delegate to the Superintendent of any Province the power of appointing and removing Returning Officers, and also of appointing and establishing Polling Places for the election of the Superintendent or of Members of the Provincial Council of such Province,
Now therefore, I, Thomas Gore Browne, the Governor of the said Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the said power and authority, Do hereby delegate to Isaac Earl Featherton, Esquire, the Superintendent of the Province of Wellington in the said Colony,
the above recited powers, to be held and exercised by him from time to time as he shall think fit, so long as he shall hold the said office of Superintendent.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Dangerous Rock off the mouth of the River Glenelg.

In May last, Mr. Walsh, master of the s. steamer “Ruby,” reported that on his passage from this port to Port Macdonnel he had discovered a rock about four feet above water.

Notice is hereby given that the Harbor Master of Portland Bay has fixed the position of this danger, by triangulation from the shore, to be in lat. 38° 6' 45” S. and long. 140° 51' E., about three miles off shore, and about twelve (12) miles to the Eastward of Cape Northumberland.

Commanders of vessels and others in possession of charts of the coast between Cape Bridgewater and Cape Nelson are recommended to mark this danger on their charts as the “Ruby” Rock.
