THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL having, on the 22nd May, agreed to a Resolution asking for copies of the Correspondence between the Governor and Dr. Featherston, relating to that gentleman’s resignation of the office of Superintendent, the SPEAKER directs the following correspondence to be published for general information.

Superintendent’s Office,
Wellington 2nd April, 1858.

Sir,—I have the honor to inform your Excellency that, in consequence of certain proceedings of the Provincial Council of this Province, I deem it right to resign the office of Superintendent.

I beg, therefore, to place in your hands my resignation of that office, and to request that your Excellency will be pleased to accept the same, on behalf of Her Majesty.

I apprehend that under the Constitution Act it is my duty to discharge the functions of Superintendent until my successor is elected, and I will continue to do so unless otherwise advised by your Excellency.

On application to Mr. John Knowles for the despatch from the General Government in answer to your letter of resignation dated the 2nd of April last, he informs me that it is in your possession.
