has directed the publication of the following notice for general information.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 23rd January, 1856.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR
in Council, directs it to be notified that a Signal Station has been erected at the mouth of the River Wanganui, Province of Wellington, and a Signal Man appointed whose duty it will be to give information necessary to masters of vessels on entering and leaving the Port.

His Excellency further directs it to be notified that under the Harbour Regulations Ordinance, Session 2, No. 15, from and after the 15th February, 1856, all masters of vessels (except coasters) will be required to pay a pilotage or due of sixpence per ton on entering and leaving the river.

NOTICE TO SURVEYORS AND ENGINEERS.

Wellington, February 19, 1856.

HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT
directs it to be notified that Tenders will be received at this Office until Noon of Monday the Tenth day of March next, from persons willing to Contract for the Survey of the Township of "Featherston" at Wairarapa. The extent of the Township, including Suburban lands, will be about 14,000 Acres.

A Plan of the Township and Specifications of the work may be seen at this Office on and after Monday next the 25th instant.

Election of One Member of the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington.

To wit. }

WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of Isaac Earl Featherston, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington,—and under the Public Seal of the Province,—bearing date the fifteenth (15th) day of February, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, hath been directed to me Henry St. Hill, Esquire, Returning Officer for the "Wairarapa

and Hawke's Bay Districts," requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the Voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as a Member for the "Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Districts," in the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington, in the place of Francis Dillon Bell,—late a Member for the said Districts, in the said Council,—who has resigned his seat in the said Council:

Now therefore I, the said Henry St. Hill, Esquire, Returning Officer for the "Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Districts" aforesaid, do hereby, in pursuance of the said Writ, give notice, that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the "Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Districts" aforesaid, will be holden at the residence of Mr. William Everett, situate at Castle Point, in the said District, on MONDAY, the seventeenth (17th) day of March next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a Member for the "Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Districts" in the said Council, in the place of the said Francis Dillon Bell; and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place at Castle Point aforesaid, and at the several polling places in the said Districts, on MONDAY, the thirty-first (31st) day of March next; the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock in the forenoon of the said day, and to close at four o'clock in the afternoon of the said day.

Dated at the Resident Magistrate's Court at Wellington, this eighteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and fifty six.

TENDERS will be received at this Office, until Thursday, February 21st, for Repairing the Pilot's House, at the Pilot Station. The specification may be seen on application at this Office.
