APPOINT that the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington shall meet for the despatch of business, at the Supreme Court House, in Wellington, on Thursday, the twenty-seventh day of December, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, at three o’clock, p.m.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the said Province, at Wellington, this twenty-fourth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor ISAAC EARL FEATHERSTON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in the Islands of New Zealand.

WHEREAS, by an Act passed by the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington, Sess. I, No. 21, intituled, “An Act to provide for the making, maintaining, repairing, and management of Country Roads within the Province of Wellington,” it is among other things enacted, that the Superintendent of the Province of Wellington shall, from time to time, as he shall deem fit, by Proclamation declare the districts within which Rates upon Land shall be levied for the making, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the highways then and thereafter to be made therein; and the boundaries of such districts:

Now therefore I, Isaac Earl Featherston, the Superintendent of the said Province of Wellington, in virtue of the power and authority in me vested in this behalf, do hereby PROCLAIM and DECLARE, that the District hereinafter described shall be a district within which rates upon land shall be levied for the making, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the highways now and hereafter to be made therein, and for other the purposes of the Act hereinbefore referred to, and shall be styled the “Western Hutt District:”

And I do also proclaim and declare the boundaries of such district to be as follows:—

North, the Stream running into the Hutt River through Section No. 51, Hutt District;—East, the Hutt River;—South, the Southern Boundary of Section No. 24, Hutt District, and the Native Reserve for Te Puni, and other Natives, at Pitone Pa;—and West, the Boundary of the Horokiwi District.

NOTICE.

Election of one Member for the Hutt District.

Province of Wellington,
to-wit.

WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Isaac Earl Featherston, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, and under the Public Seal of the Province, bearing date this twenty-eighth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, hath been directed to me, Henry St. Hill, Esquire, Returning Officer of the “Hutt District,” requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the Voters, duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as a Member for the “Hutt District” in the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington, in the place of Edward Gibbon Wakefield,—late a Member for the said District, in the said Provincial Council,—who has resigned his seat in the said Council:

Now therefore I, the said Henry St. Hill, Esquire, Returning Officer for the “Hutt District” aforesaid, do hereby, in pursuance of the said Writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the “Hutt District” aforesaid, will be holden at the Mechanics’ Institute, in the Valley of the Hutt, in the said Province, on Wednesday, the nineteenth (19th) day of December next, at twelve o’clock in the forenoon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a Member of the said Council, for the said District, in the place of the said Edward Gibbon Wakefield; and in the event of a Poll being demanded for the Candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place at the Mechanics’ Institute aforesaid, and at the several other polling places in the said District, on Friday, the twenty-first (21st) day of December next; the voting to commence any time after nine o’clock in the forenoon of the said day, and to close at four o’clock in the afternoon of the said day.
