Licensing Districts Proclamation




TARANAKI GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of the hereinbefore cited Act, do hereby proclaim, constitute, and appoint that the several territorial divisions, the boundaries whereof are defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto, shall be Licensing Districts for the purposes of the said Act; also that each such district shall be known by the name by which it is designated in the said Schedule: And I do hereby further proclaim and declare that the Licensing Court of each one of the districts hereby proclaimed, constituted, and appointed, shall consist of four Commissioners, inclusive of the Resident Magistrate, who shall at any time hereafter be appointed by me, the Governor aforesaid, to carry into effect the provisions of the said Act within such district.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.

SCHEDULE.*

PROVINCE OF TARANAKI.

Patea District.
Bounded on the East from the mouth of the River Patea by the boundary line between the Provinces of Taranaki and Wellington; on the North-east by a straight line bearing on the summit of Mount Egmont drawn from Parakino to the point where the said line is intersected by the Kairoa and Waimate Road; and from that point of intersection, on the West by the said Kairoa and Waimate Road and the Waimate Stream to the sea; and on the South by the sea from the Waimate Stream to the mouth of the Patea River.

Egmont District.
Bounded on the East by the Patea District from the mouth of the Waimate Stream to the intersection of the Kairoa and Waimate Road by the straight line drawn from Parakino on the Wanganui River bearing on the summit of Mount Egmont; on the North-east from the said point of intersection by the last-named straight line to the said summit of Mount Egmont; on the East by a straight line drawn from the said summit of Mount Egmont to the southern angle of the Grey Block; on the North-east by the south-western boundary of the said block to the sea; and on the West and South-west by the sea.

Waiongana District.
Bounded on the East and North-east by a straight line drawn from the summit of Mount Egmont to the source of the Waiongana River, and by that river to the sea; on the North-west by the sea; on the South-west and West by the north-east and eastern boundary of the Egmont District from the extreme west point of the Grey Block to the summit of Mount Egmont.

Town of New Plymouth District.
Comprising the Town of New Plymouth and Town Belt as laid out by the New Zealand Company.

Waitara District.
Bounded on the North-west and West by the sea from the mouth of the Waiongona River to the tunnel at Parininihi; and thence by a straight line in a direction due east (true bearing) for a distance of twenty miles; on the South-east by a straight line drawn from the eastern extremity of the said northern boundary in a direction south 39° west (true bearing) till it intersects the straight line between the summit of Mount Egmont and Parakino on the Wanganui River; on the South by the said last-named straight line from its intersection with the said south-eastern boundary to the summit of Mount Egmont; and thence on the West and South-west by the east and north-eastern boundaries of the Waiongana District, from the summit of Mount Egmont to the source of the Waiongona River; and by the said river to the sea.

  • For places beyond the limits of any of the districts herein defined, applications are to be made to the nearest Resident Magistrate or Licensing Court respectively.
