WRECKS AND SALVAGE.

General Post Office,
Wellington, December 22, 1868.

IT is hereby notified, for general information that all the provisions of "The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854," in regard to salvage of life from any ship or boat within the limits of the United Kingdom, are by "The Admiralty Court Act, 1861," extended to the salvage of life from any British vessel, wheresoever the service may have been rendered, or to any Foreign vessel where the service may have been rendered, either wholly or in part British waters.

Salvors of life from any vessel on the coast of New Zealand, are consequently first claimants on the wreck, in terms of "The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854," and are entitled to payment out of the proceeds of any of the property saved from the wreck.

THE following Notice to Mariners, announcing that the Tranmere Buoy, at the entrance to Manukau Harbour, has shifted, is published for general information.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Shifting of Tranmere Buoy, Manukau Harbour.

Pilot Station,
Manukau, January 8, 1869.

Notice is hereby given, that the "Tranmere" Shoal Buoy has shifted to the south-east of the line of beacons at South head; and mariners are hereby cautioned to pay particular attention to the pointing of the semaphore arms at the Signal Station, when approaching or leaving the harbour.

Due notice will be given when the "Tranmere" Shoal Buoy is replaced.

NOTICE.

"Freemasons' Hall Company, (Limited)," New Plymouth.

At a General Meeting of the Shareholders of the above Company, held, according to advertisement, on Monday, 21st December, 1868, for the purpose of considering the Liquidator’s Account, it was resolved:

"That the affairs of the Company have been fairly wound up."

COLLISIONS AT SEA.

General Post Office,
Wellington, December 22, 1868.

COLLECTORS of Customs, and other officers intrusted with the duty of inquiring into wrecks and accidents at sea, are hereby informed that, in case of a collision at sea, the Board of Trade requires a "Casualty Return" for each of the vessels in collision. The officers in question will therefore in future send a Casualty Return for each vessel to this office.

THE following Notices to Mariners, as to the shoaling of the Western Channel over Wide Bay Bar, and as to the depth of water on Upper Flats, Fitzroy River, both in the Colony of Queensland, are published for general information.

Wide Bay Bar.

In consequence of the shoaling of the present Western Channel over Wide Bay Bar, masters of vessels are cautioned against using this channel until further notice.

Upper Flats, Fitzroy River.

Masters of Vessels are hereby informed that the Cuttings through the Upper Flats, in the Fitzroy River, has now only a depth of two feet three inches at low water springs.

NOTICE.

NOTICE is hereby given, that after the 31st day of March instant, interest calculated at the rate of 4 per centum per annum on sums not exceeding Two Hundred Pounds, and at the rate of 3 per centum on sums over Two Hundred Pounds, and in the same proportion for any shorter time, will be allowed on every complete pound deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank: Provided that no interest will be allowed on more than Five Hundred Pounds.
