SANITARY BOARD REGULATIONS.

THE following Regulations adopted by the Sanitary Board, 1863, and approved by me are published under Clause 4 of the “Sanitary Board Ordinance, 1863.”

RULES AND REGULATIONS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE “SANITARY BOARD ORDINANCE, 1863.”

DUST BINS.

  1. The occupiers of every dwelling-house within the Town of New Plymouth shall provide and keep in a convenient and accessible place one or more Dust Bins in which to deposit ashes, sweepings, bones, rags, vegetable and other decaying rubbish, which shall be removed and carted away under the orders of the Sanitary Inspector.

  2. Every person who shall suffer any of the aforesaid rubbish to be deposited, cast or left about his premises, shall forfeit and pay a penalty of £1 for every such offence.

PRIVIES.

  1. All Privies communicating with any river or stream in the said Town shall be removed by the owners thereof within 30 days from the publication of these regulations in the Government Gazette of the Province.

  2. Every person neglecting to conform to the preceding rule shall forfeit and pay the sum of £5 for every day such Privies shall remain unremoved.

  3. All existing Privies in the said Town having pits or cesspools, shall within 30 days after publication as aforesaid, be emptied of their contents by the occupiers or owners of the premises to which they belong under the supervision of the said Inspector, and the said pits or cesspools shall be filled up with earth.

  4. In case such occupiers or owners shall neglect to empty the said pits and fill them with earth as aforesaid, the same shall be done by workmen acting under the orders of the Inspector, at a charge of £3, to be recovered in a summary way.

  5. Such occupiers or owners of premises in the said Town shall provide and maintain in good condition to the satisfaction of the Inspector, boxes or buckets with handles to supersede the necessity for pits or cesspools, and shall place them in such a manner as to be easily accessible to the workmen employed by the Inspector for the purpose of emptying and removing their contents from time to time.

  6. Persons infringing the preceding provision shall forfeit and pay a penalty of £5 for every such offence and shall also pay in addition all
