IRON SAND.

£1000 Reward.

Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth, 24th July, 1857.

THE Provincial Government of New Plymouth month is prepared, subject to the following conditions, to pay the sum of One Thousand Pounds (£1000) for the production of the first hundred tons of merchantable wrought or cast iron which may be manufactured in New Plymouth from the Iron Sand of the Province.

Conditions.

  1. A Committee of three persons will be appointed by the Superintendent for the purpose of reporting upon all claims which may be preferred for the above reward.

  2. It must be proved to the satisfaction of the Committee that the manufacture can be successfully and profitably carried on.

  3. The reward must be claimed before the 1st day of July 1860.

NOTICE.

Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth, 25th July, 1857.

WHEREAS by the 7th clause of “An Ordinance to provide for the maintenance of Public Works within the Province of New Plymouth,” Session 2, No. 9, it is enacted that General Meetings of the Electors for each district shall be held as therein appointed, And whereas by the 42nd clause of the said Ordinance power is given to the Superintendent, with the approval of the Provincial Council, (amongst other things) to vary the month in which General Meetings shall be held,

And whereas by Notice, duly published, a General Meeting of the Electors of the Sixth district was appointed for the 18th day of June last, And whereas by the 15th clause of the “Roads and Bridges Ordinance, 1857,” it is provided that if no General Meeting shall have been held or if no rate shall have been imposed in any particular district or districts before the 1st day of July in any year, the Superintendent shall by Notice impose the minimum Rate or Rates applicable to such district or districts, and by Notice as aforesaid shall for each and every such district, appoint three persons to be Road Commissioners and two other persons to audit the accounts of such Commissioners: And whereas no General Meeting of the Electors of the Sixth district was held before the said 1st day of July: Now, therefore, I, the Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth, do hereby impose the Minimum Rate of Sixpence per acre on all lands within the Sixth District, and I further appoint

James Dingle,
Alfred William East, and
Thomas Smith,

to be Road Commissioners of the said district under the said last recited Ordinance, and

John Litchfield Newman, and
John Stephenson Smith,

to audit the accounts of such Commissioners.
