I have heretofore declined to issue Notices of this description, and they have been issued by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, as I did not consider them within the scope of my instructions; should His Excellency be of that opinion, the present notices can be cancelled and re-issued by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
I have the honor &c.,

Superintendent.
The Honorable
The Colonial Secretary, Auckland.

Sir,βReferring to your Honor's letter of the 19th ultimo transmitting a New Plymouth Gazette of the 16th June 1855, containing two Notices which Your Honor signed at the request of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, regarding a selection of land in the Hua District,βI am directed by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government to inform you that the Commissioner of Crown Lands has been called on to report on this subject, as His Excellency does not understand how those notices come within the scope of Sir G. His Honor
