Proclamation Establishing Hundreds in Southland




the Invercargill Hundred to the Mataura River, being 6th Section north of Trig. Station 'T,' in the Oteramika Hundred; on the East by the Mataura River; on the South by the ocean; on the West by the Campbelltown and Invercargill Hundreds.

MATAURA HUNDRED.

That portion of the said Province bounded on the North by a due east and west line (true bearing), from the south-west corner of Section No. 16, Block III., Linton Hundred, to the Otao Stream; thence by the Otao Stream to the Mataura River; on the East by the Mataura River; on the South by part of the Oteramika Hundred; on the West by a line running from the south-west corner of Section No. 15, Block III., Linton Hundred, 48° 00' (on the true meridian), to the Oteramika Stream, thence by the Oteramika Stream till it cuts the south boundary aforesaid.

APAREIMA HUNDRED.

That portion of the said Province bounded on the North by a due east and west line (true bearing), on transit with Trig. Station V., on Woody Knoll; on the East by the Aparima River; on the South by part of the Jacob’s River Hundred; on the West by a due north and south line (true bearing), in transit with the top of Ferndunlaw Hill.

MABEL HUNDRED.

That portion of the said Province bounded on the North by part of the Makarewa and Hedgehope Rivers and the Timpua Stream; on the East by a due north and South line (true bearing), in transit with the eastern boundary of the Dacre Township; on the South by part of the Oteramika Hundred; on the West and South-west by the Invercargill Hundred.

WAITO HUNDRED.

That portion of the said Province bounded on the North by a line running due east and west (true bearing), through Trig. Station V., on Woody Knoll, including the township of Linhillis; on the East by a north and south line (true bearing), in transit with the east boundary of Block III. in the same Hundred, to the Oteramika Stream, thence by the Oteramika Stream, and a line in continuation of the last-mentioned line till it cuts the northern boundary aforesaid; on the South by the New River Hundred; on the West by the Oreti River.

ORETI HUNDRED.

That portion of the said Province bounded on the north by a due east and west line (true bearing), in transit with Trig. Station V., on Woody Knoll; on the East by the Oreti River; on the South by the New River Hundred; on the West by the Aparima River.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander in Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, at the Government House, at Wellington, this tenth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.
