IT is hereby notified that the Police have received instructions to enforce rigidly Clause 9—“Cattle Branding Ordinance, 1862.”

CLAUSE 9.—“CATTLE BRANDING ORDINANCE, 1862.”
“Every person who shall sell any cattle in the said Province being the owner of such cattle or the agent of such owner shall within twenty-one days after such sale cause the same together with the brands (if any) of such cattle to be registered with the Registrar of Brands.”
RULES
FOR THE CONDUCT OF BUSINESS IN DEPARTMENTS OF THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF SOUTHLAND.

Every subordinate Official will attend the Government Offices at 10 precisely.

On arrival he will enter his name in a book to be kept in the Office of the Clerk to the Superintendent.

Five minutes after 10 a.m. a line will be drawn across the page. All officers’ names appearing underneath will be considered as neglecting their duty—conduct which will be noticed when the Estimates are under the consideration of the Government.

From 1 to half-past only will be allowed for lunch. During the day no officer will leave his office before 4 p.m. without permission from the head of his Department, or at any time during the day.

Disobedience to orders of the head of the Department will subject the Officer to dismissal.

Heads of Departments will notice whether any infringement of the above rules takes place, and report quarterly to the Government.
While the Government does not insist on the officials working after 4 p.m., it expects that, should any urgent necessity require it, the Officials will offer no objection to be detained. Such will receive the notice and acknowledgment of the Government when the opportunity of promotion arises.
