PROCLAMATION

By James A. R. Menzies, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Southland.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the "Police Ordinance, 1862," that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, to declare by proclamation published in the Provincial Government Gazette, that the provisions of sections 4, 5, and 6, of the said Ordinance, shall come into operation in any townโ€”other than Invercargillโ€”in the Province of Southland, after a day to be named in such proclamation; and whereas it is expedient to extend the operation of the provisions aforesaid to the Town of Riverton;

Now, therefore, I, the said Superintendent, do hereby proclaim and declare that the provisions of sections 4, 5, and 6, of the "Police Ordinance, 1862," shall come into operation within the Electoral District of the Town of Riverton, on and after the 11th day of May, 1863.

Given under my hand this fifteenth day of April, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

THE following Members of the Police Force of the Province of Southland are hereby authorised to ascertain the existence of Nuisances, and generally to carry out the Provisions of Section 5 of the "Police Ordinance, 1862," in the Towns of Invercargill and Riverton.
