NOTICE.
AS ignorance prevails respecting the purchase of Crown Lands at public sales by auction, attention is drawn to the Act entitled “The Crown Lands Sales Extortion Prevention Act,” especially clauses 3 and 8 of said Act, which are as follows:—
III. Every person who shall actually receive money or other valuable consideration for abstaining to bid for or compete for the purchase of any Crown Lands which shall have been advertised for sale by public auction, and whether or not the same land shall be put up for sale by public auction shall be deemed to have been guilty of a misdemeanour and shall on conviction thereof be liable to be imprisoned with or without hard labour for any period not exceeding two years or fined any sum not exceeding five hundred pounds.
VIII. Any Commissioner of Crown Lands or other person connected with the administration of any of the Waste Lands of the Colony who shall cause or attempt to cause or knowingly permit any person to apply for the purchase of any portion of the Waste Lands of the Crown such applicant not being a bona fide intending purchaser or who shall knowingly countenance or permit any collusion or arrangement between intending purchasers of land having for its object to preclude or supersede the necessity of bona fide competition at any such auction sale as aforesaid shall on conviction thereof be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and shall forever thereafter be rendered incapable of holding any office or employment under the Crown.

To the District Land Officer at Clyde.
I HEREBY give notice that I intend to construct a Water-race for irrigation, domestic and agricultural purposes, commencing at a point in Butcher’s Gully, at the Gorge, about a quarter of a mile above Michael Kett’s old Race, and terminating at my farm, Sections 2, 3, and 4, Block I., Cairn Hill District.
The length of such Race is two and a-half miles or thereabouts, and its intended course is N.E. and S.W.
The mean depth and breadth of such Race is 2 feet by 1 foot, and is capable of carrying one sluice-head of water.

Any person objecting to the issue of a License to the above-named applicant must lodge his objection at my office within fourteen clear days from the date hereof.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Works until noon of Tuesday, 24th of October, for Contract No. 1132, Construction of Stone and Timber Bridge over Waikouaiti River, on Main North Road. Plans and specifications may be seen and forms of tender obtained at the Office of the Provincial Engineer, Dunedin, and at the Police Station, Waikouaiti. Tenders to be endorsed “Tender for Contract No. —”. The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

WAIPORI ROAD BOARD.
TENDERS are invited for keeping in repair, for six months (surface work only), the Main District Roads in the Maungatua Subdivision.
Tenders to be addressed to the Chairman Waipori Road Board, Post Office, Lake Waipori, up to noon on Saturday, 4th November,
The successful tenderer will be required to lodge deposit.
The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

TENDERS will be received by the Secretary of the Outram Road Board until Friday, 27th October, for Contract No. 1, Supply and Delivery of about 3000 cubic yards of Gravel for roads near Greytown Bridge.
Specifications may be seen at the office of the Secretary, Outram, and at the office of the undersigned.
The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

NOTICE TO THE RATEPAYERS IN THE PORTOBELLO ROAD DISTRICT.
A GENERAL RATE of One Shilling in the Pound on the full net annual value on all rateable property within the district will be made on Saturday, the 7th of October proximo, for the year ending June the 30th, 1877. Statement of proposed rate to be seen at my residence.

NOTICE.
TO THE RATEPAYERS IN THE PORTOBELLO ROAD DISTRICT.
THE District Board made at their last meeting, held on October the 7th, a General Rate of One Shilling in the £ on all rateable property within the district for the year ending June 30th, 1877.
The Rate Book lies for the inspection of ratepayers, who may take copies of the same at the house of the Clerk.
Objections (if any) must be made in writing and lodged with the Clerk on or before the 11th of November.
A Special Meeting of the Board will be held on Saturday, the 18th of November, at 12 o’clock, to determine such objections.
No other notice will be given.
