NOTICE.

INCORPORATED TOWN OF MAORI HILL.

WHEREAS by the 28th section of the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” it is provided that no person elected to be Mayor, Councillor, or Auditor under the said Ordinance shall be capable of acting as such until he shall first, in the presence of any two Councillors, have made and subscribed the declaration therein set forth: Provided that at the first elections under the said Ordinance, whether for the City of Dunedin or for any incorporated town or place, such declaration shall be made and subscribed before a person to be appointed for that purpose by the Superintendent of Otago:

And whereas it is necessary that a person should be appointed before whom such declaration shall be made and subscribed by the persons elected as Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors respectively, for the Incorporated Town of Maori Hill, at the first elections for the said town under the said Ordinance:

Now, therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby, in pursuance of the power in this behalf vested in me by the said Ordinance, appoint Mr. John Campbell, of Williamtown,
as and to be the person before whom the persons elected as Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors respectively, at the first elections under the said Ordinance for the said Incorporated Town of Maori Hill, shall make and subscribe the declaration specified in the said twenty-eighth section of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago aforesaid, at Dunedin, this ninth day of May, 1876.

PROCLAMATION.

APPOINTING WAKATIPU SLAUGHTER-HOUSE DISTRICT.

By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance “For Regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places,” passed by the Lieutenant-Governor and Legislative Council of New Zealand, in the eleventh year of her present Majesty, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for his Excellency the Governor, by proclamation from time to time, to constitute and define certain districts for the purpose aforesaid. And it is also enacted that within any such district, and after a day to be prescribed by any such proclamation, no person shall keep a slaughter-house, or place for slaughtering cattle intended for sale, barter, shipping, or exportation, except such house or place be duly licensed for that purpose in manner in the said Ordinance provided:

And whereas by an Ordinance intituled “An Ordinance to empower the Superintendent of the Province of Otago to perform certain Acts heretofore performed by the Governor or Lieutenant-Governors of New Zealand, and by the Resident Magistrate of Otago,” passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said province, the powers vested in the Governor by the said first recited Ordinance are within the limits of the said province conferred on the Superintendent thereof:

Now, therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby in pursuance and exercise of the power vested in me as aforesaid, proclaim and declare that I have constituted the district hereinafter named and described to be a district for the purpose of the said first in part recited, and within which from and after the date hereof, the several provisions of the said first recited Ordinance shall come into operation and take effect, that is to say: Wakatipu Slaughter-house District—

All that area in the Province of Otago, Colony of New Zealand, bounded towards the north-east and south-east by a line from Fog Peak, across Treble Cone to Middle Peak; thence in a straight line to Mount Pisa; thence in a straight line to the junction of Kirtle Vum, with the Kawarau River; thence along the Carrick Mountains to the south-east corner of run numbered 354; towards the south by the southern boundary of the said run; towards the south-east by a line from Lorn Peak to the junction of Allen Creek with the Mataura River; towards the west and north by the boundary of the Gold Field to Fog Peak.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this 9th day of May, 1876.

PROCLAMATION.

Protection of Animals Act, 1873.

By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of Otago.

WHEREAS by section 10 of the Protection of Animals Act, 1873, it is provided that “No game shall be hunted, shot, taken, or killed in any Province until the same shall have been proclaimed as open for that purpose by proclamation in that behalf to be made and published in the Gazette; and no game shall be hunted, shot, taken, or killed except within a consecutive period not exceeding three months of any year, to be fixed by the Superintendent by proclamation as aforesaid, between the first day of May and the thirty-first day of July, both inclusive, in any year, and only between the hours of sunrise and sunset: Such period when fixed in accordance with this Act shall be deemed to be the ‘season’ for the purposes of this Act.”

Now, therefore I, James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, under and in pursuance of the powers and authority vested in me by the said section, and of every other power and authority enabling me in this behalf do hereby proclaim all that area lying between the Waitaki River and Catlin’s River, and ten miles back from the sea coast, as open for hunting, shooting, taking, or killing cock pheasants, between the hours of sunrise and sunset, during the season of the months of June and July, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-six.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, in the said Province, this 9th day of May, 1876.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN conformity to the 29th section of the “Gold Fields Act, 1866,” and to the regulations made under that Act and the Gold Fields Act Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.
