barrow, or to ride on horseback upon, or to lead or drive any horses or cattle across or along any footpath formed alongside any street, line, or district road, and any person committing an offence against this bye-law shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding five pounds.

It shall not be lawful for any person to draw or trail any sledge, timber, or other material, upon or along any street, line, or district road, and any person committing an offence against this bye-law shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding five pounds.

Every person who throws any glass, dirt, filth, manure, ashes, or rubbish, or allows any night soil or other offensive matter to be spilt or otherwise cast upon any street, line, or district road, or allows to run from any house or premises any foul or sewerage water onto any street, line, or district road, shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding five pounds.

Every person who throws or lays any building or other materials, or constructs or erects any scaffolding or fence upon any street, line, or district road, save under permission of the Road Board, in writing first obtained, shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding twenty pounds.

If any person shall place any house, building, or fence, or any part thereof, upon any portion of any street, line, or district road, he shall forfeit a sum not exceeding ten pounds, and a further sum not exceeding five pounds, for every day while the same shall so continue.

If any person shall obstruct any street, line, or district road, whether by allowing any vehicle to remain on such street, line, or district road, or by placing goods thereon, or otherwise, he shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding ten pounds.

If any horses or cattle be found on any street, line, or district road, without any person having the charge thereof; or if turned out for grazing purposes, although in charge of any person, the Board shall have power to impound such; and in addition to all poundage charges, the owners of such horses or cattle shall, on conviction, be liable to a penalty not exceeding five shillings per head, which sum shall be collected by the poundkeeper, and paid over by him to the Road Board.

No drove cattle shall be driven on any street, line, or district road, without having an attendant going before such drove cattle, and without being kept in a compact body; and any person offending against this section shall, on conviction, forfeit a sum not exceeding twenty pounds, and in the interpretation of this Bye-law the term “drove cattle” shall be taken to mean all cattle being driven in or through the road district to or from market or slaughter yard.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
NOTICE is hereby given that on Monday the 17th instant, the Lightship in the Lower Harbour of Dunedin will be removed for her annual overhaul which will occupy about eight days, during such time a cutter will be moored in her place and the Light exhibited from an ordinary masthead lantern.

ONE HUNDRED POUNDS REWARD.
MURDER.
WHEREAS, Martin Cunningham is charged on warrant, with having, on or about the 25th of November, 1875, at Lake Ohau, murdered one Hugh Hannah: This is to notify that a reward of £100, will be paid to any person who shall first give such information to the Police as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the said Martin Cunningham.
Description of Martin Cunningham, better known as “Martin:” An Englishman, but looks not unlike a half-caste, a sailor and station hand, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout square build, broad round flat face, swarthy complexion, ill-looking, black or very dark brown hair inclined to curl at ends, black whiskers, beard, and moustache, tattooed on both arms and back of hands, ship in full sail on one arm and a name underneath it, believed also to have anchor on muscle of left arm, and a small cut or scar on back of head, walks with his arms wide from body; when last seen, he wore an old brown felt hat with leather strap round it, hat cut in two or three places, through which the strap was passed; dark brown or black single-breasted coat, slit about the hips; bluish tweed vest, moleskin trousers with a small blue stripe down seam, and water-tight boots.
He is believed to have arrived in Port Chalmers by the ship “Jura,” twelve years ago. He has worked for some years on the West Coast road, and was generally employed on stations, knows the back country well, and has lived amongst the Natives in the North Island.

I, THE undersigned, having been robbed of three £20 notes at Ettrick, on 1st January, 1876, issued by the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, and numbered 007,350, 002,172, and 006,736, hereby caution the public not to take those or either of them as payment or otherwise as the circulation of those said notes are stopped at the Bank. Further, anyone giving information that will lead to recovery and conviction of thief, a reward of 10 per cent. and 15 per cent. respectively will be paid.
