the School Committee for the preceding year shall give a full report of their proceedings, and thereupon the electors present shall proceed to elect, either by show of hands or by ballot, as shall be determined by the said meeting, a new School Committee for the ensuing year of not less than five, nor more than nine persons possessing the qualifications prescribed by clause 13, and may re-elect all, or any of the persons going out of office, to be members of such new Committee, and every Committee so to be appointed shall hold office until the appointment of their successors.

PUBLIC LIBRARIES.

A LARGE and valuable assortment of Public Library Books will be ready for distribution shortly. A list of the books is in course of preparation. As this list will exhaust the supply from Britain for the present, Library Committees and Settlers in localities not yet provided with a Public Library, are advised to avail themselves of this opportunity of obtaining the advantages offered by the Provincial Government Public Library Scheme.

Printed Catalogues of books, and other information, will be furnished on application.

CORRECTED NOTICE.

EXAMINATION OF TEACHERS.

EXAMINATIONS of Pupil Teachers and Teachers, and for Candidates of employment as such, will be held at Dunedin, Oamaru, Invercargill, Milton, Queenstown, and Lawrence, upon Tuesday and Wednesday, the 21st and 22nd of December, 1875. All persons intending to attend the examinations will please send me notice before the 10th December, 1875. Teachers who desire to be examined for a Certificate must send me notice of their intention, determining the division, and the alternate subjects they mean to take up.

A MEETING of the Education Board will be held at the Government Buildings, Dunedin, on Thursday, the 23rd December, 1875, at noon.

Wanted also, Teacher for Waitahuna Main Gully Side School. Salary—Government subsidy, £75, and school fees, less 10 per cent., with residence, and 10-acre glebe attached.

OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

A Bye-law and Regulation of the Otago Harbour Board.

WHEREAS by Section 7 of the Otago Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1875, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Otago Harbour Board to levy a general harbour improvement rate not exceeding in any case 2s per ton by weight or by measurement laws upon all goods, wares, and merchandise discharged at or shipped from the port of Dunedin : Now, therefore, the Otago Harbour Board doth hereby declare that there shall be levied and doth hereby levy on all goods, wares, and merchandise discharged at or shipped from the port of Dunedin, with the exception of all goods, wares, and merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers, a general harbour improvement rate as follows, viz.:—

Imports.—Sawn timber, 4d. per 100 feet.

Coal, firewood, produce in sacks, 1s. per ton.

All other goods 2s per ton.

Exports.—Wool, 1s. per table.

All other goods or produce exported beyond New Zealand, 1s. per ton.

Transhipments.—All goods or produce transhipped to other Ports, half rates.

And whereas by section 12 of the Otago Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1875, it is enacted that the harbour improvement rate chargeable on goods, wares, and merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers, shall be not more than one half of the rate charged on goods, wares, and merchandise landed at any other dock, wharf, or pier in the Port of Dunedin : Now, therefore, the Otago Harbour Board doth hereby declare that there shall be levied and doth hereby levy on all goods, wares, and merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers, a general harbour improvement rate as follows:—

Imports.—Sawn timber, 2d. per 100 feet.

All other goods, 1s. per ton.

Exports.—Wool, 6d per table.

Made and passed by the said Otago Harbour Board at a meeting of the said Otago Board held on the seventh day of December, and sealed with the seal of the said Board at Dunedin on the said seventh day of December, 1875, in the presence of the following members of the said Otago Harbour Board.
