Treasury Minute relative to Proclamation decrying
Imperial Copper Coin.

Treasury,
Wellington, 30th August, 1875.

REFERRING to a Proclamation made on the 24th
August instant, decrying the Imperial copper
coin in circulation in the colony from and after
31st January next, it is hereby notified for public
information, that no Copper Moneys, either of the
Imperial or token coinage will be received in payment
of the Crown Revenues after the date above specified.

It is further notified that, with a view to replace
the Imperial coin to be withdrawn, and the token
coinage interdicted under this arrangement, steps
have been taken for introducing an adequate supply
of Imperial Bronze Coin into the colony.

The first instalment of this supply is expected
immediately, and on arrival it will be forthwith dis-
tributed amongst the several Banks for issue to the
public in exchange for the Imperial copper coin
decried.

Regulations for the Nomination of Immigrants.

NORMANBY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
31st day of August, 1875.

Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS under and by virtue of the powers
and authorities vested in him for that pur-
pose by "The Immigration and Public Works Act,
1870," and "The Immigration and Public Works
Act Amendment Act, 1871," the Governor did, on
or about the 15th day of October, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three,
make certain Regulations for the introduction of
immigrants from Europe into the Colony of New
Zealand on the nomination of persons resident
therein: And whereas by the said first-mentioned
Act it is, amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor in Council may from time to time make
Regulations for the conduct of immigration to New
Zealand and for the nomination of immigrants by
persons residing therein, as in the said Act men-
tioned, and no action shall be taken upon any such
Regulation until the same has been laid before Par-
liament: And whereas by "The Immigration and
Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1871," so much
of the 40th section of the said first-mentioned Act
as provides that no action is to be taken under the
Regulations made under the said section until such
Regulations have been laid before Parliament, is
thereby repealed: And whereas it is expedient that

other Regulations should be made in addition to
those so made by the Governor as aforesaid:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exer-
cise of the power and authority vested in him for that
purpose by "The Immigration and Public Works
Act, 1870," and by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said Colony, doth
hereby make the Regulations set forth in the Schedule
hereto, for the conduct of immigration to New
Zealand, and for the nomination of immigrants by
persons resident therein: Such Regulations shall be
in addition to those already in force, and shall take
effect from and after the thirty-first day of August
instant: Provided, however, that nothing herein
contained, or in the Regulations hereby made, shall
prejudice or affect anything lawfully done or any
right acquired or duty imposed by or under the said
Regulations of the fifteenth day of October afore-
said.

SCHEDULE.

ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS FOR THE CONDUCT OF
IMMIGRATION TO NEW ZEALAND, ON THE NOMI-
NATION OF IMMIGRANTS BY PERSONS RESIDENT
THEREIN.

  1. Except as hereinafter provided, nominations of
    the following classes only will be accepted, viz.,β€”

Agricultural labourers, such as farm ser-
vants, navvies, shepherds, carpenters, country
mechanics, &c., and

Single women suitable for domestic service, such
as cooks, housemaids, general servants, dairy-
maids, &c.

  1. Married men must be under 45 years of age
    single men under 40 years of age, and single women
    between 15 and 35 years of age.

  2. Free passages will not be granted to more than
    3 children under 12 years of age in one family; but
    the number in excess may be paid for at the current
    rate of passage.

  3. Immigration Officers may provisionally accept
    nominations of persons not eligible under the fore-
    going Regulations if satisfied as to the prospect of
    employment upon arrival, &c.; but such nominations
    will be subject to the approval of the Minister for
    Immigration.

  4. The Minister for Immigration may authorize
    payment in cash of such an amount as he may think
    fit to be taken for the passage of persons, who under
    the foregoing Regulations or in his opinion are in-
    eligible for free passages; and nominators may also
    deposit with Immigration Officers any sums they may
    desire the Agent-General to advance to their friends
    for outfit or other embarkation expenses.

  5. Persons wishing to obtain labour of a particular
    class may send instructions to their friends or agents
    at home through an Immigration Officer, and such
    agents will be accredited to the Agent-General, who
    will provide the persons selected by them with
    passages, should he deem them suitable.
