tained in section 186 of part 13 of the "Municipal
Corporations Act, 1867," the Council of the City of
Dunedin ordain as follows, that is to say—
That from and after the date of this Bye-law
coming into operation, any person who shall
sell, or offer for sale, within the City of
Dunedin, any butcher's meat which shall
have had air blown under the skin thereof,
or shall have had any fat or grease spouted
thereupon, shall, upon conviction thereof,
forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding
(£5) five pounds.
Made by the Council of the City of Dunedin, this
7th day of January, 1874.

REGULATIONS of the COUNCIL of the CITY of
DUNEDIN, made under Schedule 13 of the
"Municipal Corporations Act, 1867."
No. 1.
A Regulation made under the authority of Section 4,
Subdivision 1, Part 1, of Schedule 13, of said
Act—"For regulating the height from the ground,
shape, figure, dimensions, and materials of Porti-
cos or Verandahs."
1st. No portico or verandah shall be of less height
than ten (10) feet from the kerb to the soffite of the
fascia, measured in the centre of the verandah; nor
higher than ten feet, unless the permission of the
City Surveyor has been first obtained in either case.
2nd. All porticos or verandahs shall be erected in
accordance with plan and specification deposited in
the office of the Town Clerk.

No. 2.
A Regulation made under the authority of section 14,
subdivision 3, part 1, of schedule 13 of said Act—
"For regulating the formation, &c., of drains to be
laid under any footway or channel."
1st. All drains under footways shall be con-
structed with iron pipes not exceeding three inches
in diameter, and shall be laid with a fall of three
inches in the whole width of the footway; the level
at the discharge mouth being the level of the water
channel.
2nd. The kerbstone shall be neatly cut with a cir-
cular hole of the same size as the outside diameter of
the pipe, to receive the end of the pipe, and relaid to
line and level.
3rd. The footway opened up for the reception of
the pipe, shall be made good with the same material
of which it is constructed.
4th. No drain under a footway, and discharging
into the channel, shall be laid or used for any other
purpose than for carrying off surface water, whether
from roofs or yards.

No. 3.
A Regulation made under the authority of section 26, sub-
division 4, part 1, of schedule 13 of said Act—"For
regulating the formation, &c., of crossings across or
over footways and channels.
1st. No crossing shall be less than nine feet long
in the direction of the street, nor of greater length,
unless the permission of the City Surveyor has been
first obtained.
2nd. Both sides of any crossing laid in the streets,
or parts of the streets, colored red on the map depo-
sited in the office of the Town Clerk, shall be laid
with straight axe-dressed blue-stone kerbing, 12
inches square, wrought to a mould deposited in the
office of the City Surveyor, with a quadrant of the
same material, and two feet radius at each end. The
crossing shall be laid with bluestone cubes, nine
inches deep, four inches wide, and any length over
twelve inches.
3rd. Both sides of any crossing laid in any street,
or part of a street, other than those colored red on
the map referred to, may be laid with hardwood
planking, nine inches deep and three inches thick,
well tarred; and the crossing may be laid with
boulder pitchers, six inches deep, in as regular courses
as possible.
4th. All crossings shall be the full width of the
footway, and shall have such inclination towards the
channel, and be set to such gradients as the City
Surveyor may direct.
5th. All crossings shall be well bedded on a pre-
pared bed, using at least three inches in depth of
sand, and thoroughly grouted with liquid sand, and
well rammed to a solid and uniform surface, to the
satisfaction of the City Surveyor.
6th. No materials shall be used in any crossing
which have not first been approved of by the City
Surveyor.
7th. No workman shall be allowed to set any part
of any crossing who shall not have first obtained a li-
cense under the hand of the Town Clerk, as a gua-
rantee of his competency to execute the work, which
license shall be revocable at the option of the City
Council.

No. 4.
A Regulation made under the authority of section 45,
subdivision 9, part 1, of schedule 13 of the said Act
—"For appointing the hours during which it
shall not be lawful to drive into or through the
city, or any part thereof, any cattle intended for
sale, slaughter, or shipment, or travelling from
one part of New Zealand, or of any other colony,
to any other place," &c., &c.
It shall not be lawful to drive into or through any
part of the City of Dunedin, except between the
hours of 10 o'clock p.m. and 8 o'clock a.m. of any
day, any cattle intended for sale, slaughter, or ship-
ment, or travelling from one part of New Zealand or
any other colony, to any other place. (Provided
that nothing herein contained shall apply to horses
driven in harness, or to oxen in the yoke.)

No. 5.
A Regulation made under the authority of section 4,
part 6, of schedule 13 of said Act—"For appoint-
ing the times and hours during or at which re-
spectively any registered building or ground shall
be used for the purpose for which it is registered,
or shall be closed," &c., &c.
Any registered building or ground may be used for
the purpose for which it is registered, at any time,
and during any hours, day or night. The license fee
to be £1 per year, and every license to be available
only until the 30th day of September after the date
of its issue.
